Some speculation that, if the deal gets regulatory approval, Cablevision would acquire the NYC business of TWC.

This home needs to be taken away from its owners. They just don't understand it.

As I mentioned yesterday the economy in Jersey, and that area in particular, is anemic. I keep in touch with people there from my Bell Labs days, and this situation is typical.

yes, NJ hasn't faired as well. But that town is still easy enough commuting distance to NYC. I suspect that much of suburban NYC still not at peak (or perhaps it was a bubble) prices. And that goes for most areas around country perhaps except for some hot urban markets such is central NYC, SF, etc.
I know the condo bldg my friend lives in in Ft. Laud still not at prices the orig. units sold for.

House has great bones, Part. I actually like the kitchen, except for the peninsula, which would have to go. I hate granite countertops, too. Floors are the best part of the house. It's interesting how someone could cherish the fact that they have an 1875 house, and then do some of the things they did in there. But it could be undone.

LP,

That upper door may have contained a fold-down ironing board. One of my aunts had a door like that in her place, and that's what it was for. In her case, the ironing board was still in there and she used it.

Closet, perhaps, or dumbwaiter. If closet, door may have been cut in half, DW added on bottom, and beadboard wainscoting either fabricated to look old, or perhaps taken from somewhere else. But probably dumbwaiter.

http://www.nytimes.com/2015/05/26/nyregion/in-a-changing-brooklyn-shop-owners-decide-to-call-it-quits.html?ref=nyregion&_r=1

Oh dear. Long-term shop-owner closes up due to gentrification and developers, or is that evil, greedy developers?

Question: does anybody doubt how the story is going to go, after reading just the first paragraph?

Give it a rest, already. You live in a city that is dynamic and changing.

Dinner last night was great. The risotto came out perfectly and I cooked three pork tenderloins to different temps for different tastes. I took mine out at 137˚ and, after resting, it was a perfect tender pink. The others cooked to 145˚ (the recommended temp) and 155˚ for more well done.

President Obama maintains his winning streak with the courts:

"A federal appeals court upheld an injunction against President Obama’s new deportation in a ruling Tuesday that marks the second major legal setback for an administration that had insisted its actions were legal.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit ruled in favor of Texas, which had sued to stop the amnesty, on all key points, finding that Mr. Obama’s amnesty likely broke the law governing how big policies are to be written.

“The public interest favors maintenance of the injunction,” the judges wrote in the majority opinion. "
