I am not sure. I don't know if you run the risk of needing an inspection if it is shut off for an extended period or some other asinine laws.

I have heard horror stories of no buildings ever passing inspections under the new pressure guidelines that are required to test gas lines. There was a story in the Forum a few weeks ago. Entire building needed to be re-piped.

I'd leave the accounts active.

And, even if you change building configuration, try to use the old meter designations (both gas and electric) otherwise you run the same risks and more costs from ConEd and Gas. Talk to your electrician and contractor.
GThe bills will always come as they ate now titled but just explain to tenant that "Unit 3" is now Unit 1. Blah, blah.

That's the way it was at my house since everything was done without permits.

Not sure what you can get away with there. Do you at least have 100 amp elec service supplying the building????

If not, you need to upgrade.

DIBS- yes, national grid says the building would need to be inspected before service could be turned back on. they also said that gas should be turned off if there is any construction going on in the house. true? if they are installing a new boiler for example, how would they test it if the gas is shut off?

May 1, 2015 10:25 AM - Deleted
congrats MM
May 1, 2015 10:26 AM - petebklyn
don't need to turn off gas to house to change boiler. there are shutoff valves before the boiler.
May 1, 2015 10:27 AM - Deleted
that is what i thought.

OK, leaving gas turned on. thanks guys!
May 1, 2015 10:30 AM - dibs
Installation of new boiler, ranges, etc down the line should not trigger anything with National Grid. If you keep the accounts active as is, there should be no inspection triggered. Them telling you to turn off during construction is CYA. All sorts of construction is done all the time in places without turning off gas service. As long as it is shut off IN THE HOUSE you will be fine from a safety standpoint. I think your contractor will back me up on this.

The installer tests the "new work" when installing a new boiler. No different from installing a new range, really.

Unless rules have really changed and the plumber has to go through all new levels of hoops nowadays.

May 1, 2015 10:35 AM - dibs
You should change account names and pay the monthy min for each one. I don't know what happens if they stay inactive for any period of time. But, like I said, the rules on pressure inspections have changed and if you need one of those to reactivate them, you will not pass and the entire building will likely need to be replumbed for gas.

May 1, 2015 10:47 AM - petebklyn

From Wikipedia:
Houston Street is named for William Houstoun, who was a delegate from State of Georgia to the Continental Congress from 1784 through 1786 and to the Constitutional Convention in 1787.[1] The street was christened by Nicholas Bayard III, whose daughter, Mary, was married to Houstoun in 1788.[4] The couple met while Houstoun, a member of an ancient and aristocratic Scottish family, was serving in the Congress. Bayard cut the street through a tract he owned in the vicinity of Canal Street in which he lived, and the city later extended it to include North Street, the northern border of New York's east side at the beginning of the 19th century.[4]

The current spelling of the name is a corruption: the street appears as Houstoun in the city's Common Council minutes for 1808 and the official map drawn in 1811 to establish the street grid that is still current.

Houston [Tx] was founded in 1836 on land near the banks of Buffalo Bayou (now known as Allen's Landing)[7][8] and incorporated as a city on June 5, 1837. The city was named after former General Sam Houston, who was president of the Republic of Texas and had commanded and won at the Battle of San Jacinto 25 miles (40 km) east of where the city was established.

Ms. Mosby said that Mr. Gray suffered a fatal spinal injury on April 12 while being transported in a police van — and not earlier, while being arrested — and pointed to the failure of the police to put a seatbelt on him as a crucial factor. “Mr. Gray suffered a critical neck injury as a result of being handcuffed, shackled by his feet and unrestrained inside the BPD wagon,” she said, referring to the police van.

Despite repeated stops to check on Mr. Gray, the van driver, Officer Caesar R. Goodson Jr., and other officers never belted him in, she said, at times leaving him facedown on the van floor with his hands behind him. Though there has been speculation that the police intentionally gave Mr. Gray a “rough ride,” intended to slam him against the metal walls of the van, Ms. Mosby did not refer to that possibility. She charged only Officer Goodson with second-degree murder, the most serious crime facing the six officers; he was also accused of manslaughter, assault and misconduct in office.

Mr. Gray’s condition deteriorated, she said, as officers repeatedly ignored his pleas for medical attention and ignored obvious signs that he was in distress. At one point, she said, when officers attempted to check on him, Mr. Gray was completely unresponsive — yet no action was taken. He died of his injuries a week later.

Free speech applies to persecution by the govt. not from people calling you out on your douchebaggery

Plus he assaulted someone. So freedom of speech is moot

Why are they protesting tonight? Will have to go to midtown to get away from the people, helicopters and sirens.

May 1, 2015 8:50 PM - Partridge
Too much violence here today. What's up with y'all?

"merriweather paquio fight "
"Feels really good to hit stuff "
"Plus he assaulted someone."
"He punched a woman in the face "
"And risk getting another giant gash "
"Saturday will be all about the fight,"
"Floyd is very elusive efficient fighter"

and another one which seems to be deleted about
"Smashing her shaming camera in her face" or something like that.
