Good morning.
Lots of stress from all sorts of directions today.

The good news is that I have been burying myself in programming, and the new version of the site is closer than I thought.
Last night, I got the migration of all users, articles, forums posts, comments, and images working.
About the only thing that will not transfer over is your password.

Still have various odds and ends to clean up, but all the big work is done except for one function (showing number of new posts).

As I keep saying, the site NY YIMBY is such a breath of fresh air.

Here is their analysis of the supermarket situation in Clinton Hill, and the current zoning laws which contribute to it.

http://newyorkyimby.com/2015/02/how-the-department-of-city-planning-turned-clinton-hill-into-a-food-desert.html

But this demonstrates NYC's bizarre political calculus. Yes, have politicians play the race angle, to get their base worked up and gather some headlines. In the meantime, don't do the hard work of city planning.

Same thing with the Garner case. Play the police-race angle. Ignore the fact that four policeman were deployed to arrest a guy selling loosies, because the city and state government want their confiscatory taxes on this vice.

I didn't know people had moved in, but the last time I drove down there, the facade had been redone. I have to admit, I cried. It looked so beautiful, and it was something I just never could afford to do. I still don't think I can watch other people coming and going in and out of the house.

Got a text early this morning that left me a bit weirded out.

"Good morning, Partridge (spelled correctly). This is Ray from CMY. Please give me your email address."

Well, I didn't like this. Who is Ray, what is CMY, I'm thinking. Hmm... 917 number. Someone local, but I don't know a Ray. Don't know a CMY. Google searching... Who do I owe money to? Can a process server email one now a days? Scary shit goes through my mind.

I answered, "Good morning. CMY?"

A minute later Ray texts back,

"Yes."

Fuck me. Now he's playing games with me. I'm not answering him. Try to ignore the feelings of dread. Palms a little sweaty. Try to eat breakfast without thinking about it. Look at pretty things on Etsy...

Three hours later...

Text: "Your insurance broker."

I sorta hang with a less professional crew, but no one normally texts me either.

Y'all remember Department Head? She's the gal in charge of getting me my commission payment for sold jewelry items. Although we exchanged a couple of normal (professional) emails before she went away for 10 days, I have not heard from her yet since she should have returned to work. Today is day 4 post vacay. Time to poke her again, I think.

And then there is the altruistic designer/vendor who tried to pass sharp rings off on me in the name of feeding women in Kenya! I cancelled the balance of my order with them. $1,200. They called and emailed. Tried to make things nice but I stuck to my guns and held firm on my cancellation. This incident, and a previous one, has caused me to lose confidence in both their products and their willingness to handle problems professionally.

The world is going to pot.

Both the Stop and Shop and the WF down here sell things that both black and white people eat. I even see black people in the WholeFoods which I suspect would stun Vilamette Montgomery.

NASDAQ about to surpass Mar 2000 highs. I remember in 2001 or so, the CIO of USTrust said we would never see thopse levels again.

...others I think they missed,
Nighthawks with Stallone, Billy Dee Williams and Rutger Hauer, that was a great New York film,
also The Warriors of course.
One huge omission in the "outer borough" section is Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
What's great about that one (like The Royal Tenenbaums which is included) is the fact that you know it's filmed in and around the city but it's nowhere that's obvious. It goes with the crazy, dream-like quality of the film itself.
If there was a New York State section, they definitely would have included Buffalo 66.
If you haven't seen that one, it's a great film. Some of the cast includes Vincent Gallo, Christina Ricci, Rosanna Arquette, Ben Gazzara, Angelica Huston and even a strange and rare cameo by Jan Michael Vincent.

Did everyone migrate to the new site already?

...anyway the March issue of Vanity Fair has a great article on the 100 best New York films.
They made some big omissions in my opinion. Films like Broadway Danny Rose, Godfather I,II and Moonstruck.
They have the films broken down by decade.
I'm partial to the 70's films myself. I think they have the most weight, but there are great choices from each decade from
the original King Kong to Breakfast at Tiffany's.

I've said it before: I saw the French Connection on the big screen about 4-5 years ago, and what struck me the most was the palpable sense of NYC on the verge of decline. Much of it was filmed on location, and the city looks dirty and worn-out. It captures a city still intact, but about to go through some very rough times.

On the morning news this morning. Charlie Rose spoke about it.

Very strange story. I think there will be even more which comes out. What they discovered wasn't suicide worthy.

50 lbs of pot not much. I think they suspect other illegal drugs.

And to think a just couple of years ago his run off syrup was causing the rooftop bee keepers to find red honey.

Does the guy have any free time?

I'm still fascinated by a sense of anarchy that exists in RH. A Wild West where the rules of the city don't always apply. Parking signs seem only recently added. Cars drive the wrong way down streets. Tumble weed rolls, businesses dump their waste in the water, street artists paint at night, Japanese tourists photograph the sights.

"Charlie Rose is on the morning news?"

I was going to ask the same thing but googled it instead. Since January 2012. I have no TV. What's your excuse?

Red Hook is where Hubert Selby's classic and disturbing work, Last Exit to Brooklyn, takes place LP.

He is very busy but he is no longer the young bachelor about town so has more time for work. I like the CBS morning news, charlie and nora ask some tough questions and gayle king doesn't bother me so much. They used to bring her on after 730. The rest of morning dreck seem to be an endless supply of utube videos and reality stars.

Last exit to Brooklyn made me glad I wasn't there during the decline.

FCC voted to make Internet "common carrier", as opposed to "information service". This is not the same as "public utility". Net Neutrality bill going to Congress is a different animal, and does *not* advance the principles of net neutrality.
Just sayin'.

I don't watch the morning news!

Dad "terlet" Benson has many stories about Red Hook back in the day.

"LOL at Cobble trying to rid a Brooklyn house of bugs. Glad she was never my tenant."

Not in my house, it's my elderly friend's cellar. Infested with water bugs.

Thanks, LP. I will call them in the AM.

BTW: an old-school person from Red Hook never uses that term (Red Hook). They would say that they were from "The Point" (most likely pronounced "The Pernt") or Erie Basin. I'm not sure of the derivation of the phrase "The Point".
