Kaisa on Brink of Dollar Default Spooks Money Managers
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2015-01-18/kaisa-on-brink-of-dollar-default-spooks-world-s-money-managers.html

As Europe grapples with terrorism and Switzerland scrapped a currency peg, the troubles of a Chinese developer that’s never reached $3 billion in market value became something investors from New York to London couldn’t ignore.

A missed $23 million interest payment by Kaisa Group Holdings Ltd. (1638) earlier this month puts it at risk of being the first Chinese real estate company to default on its dollar-denominated bonds.

Uh huh, what about the Real Estate in Brooklyn? What about all the new shinny shit Towers?!

"Apparently lower gas and energy prices spell doom for the economy. At least in someone's warped mind"

it's the first sign of a commodity crash, today's economy is dependant on asset inflation.

Energy prices have crashed over 60% and falling. Deflation is a Bitch when you spent 1.5 Million on a Brownstone in a "up and coming neighborhood".

One Morning everything will open in a Lock Limit, there will be a 'Bail In', 20% of your Bank Deposits will be "Jacked" and Real Estate will crash by 50%.

"Do you know why the Chinesemarkets were down?"

Yes, that's the first Domino to fall. The Chinese have lied about everything (Economic Numbers, Loans, Hypothecation of Assets and the Bullshit).

You're watching the destruction of Money, the destruction of The Mutant Asset Bubble, there's no where to run to, nowhere to hide.

Next on deck is Europe, this week the will announce a QE program but, it will be insufficient and the Market will sell off.

Here in the Good Ole U.S. of A. The Fed will announce they will raise interest rates, the funny thing is the 30 Year Bond is at the lowest in History, when that shit happens, the whole Bond Market will Fucking implode!!!!!!

So Dave, you can continue with nonsense and Bullshit, save for the Retards!

american sniper, besides being a mediocre piece of filmmaking and a crappy piece of screenwriting, has a strange way of indirectly glorifying killing. the main character's conflict upon returning from duty is not the acts he committed (hundreds of confirmed kills) but rather that he didn't get the chance to save more lives by killing more people. i found it off-putting. but i am probably not the target audience, nor am i a real american or real new yorker. i am a pinko commie leftist who hates bad cops.

"Wait, I'm confused (again). How is it that we Brooklyn gentrifiers killed Canal St.?"

Pepper, Canal St of one of the busiest streets in the world, with thousands of cars coming thru everyday. The Real Estate is priceless but, Canal St. was a great hub, a place to get great Food and Great Shit. With the skyrocketing rents and the Mutant Asset Bubble, the valuations are fucking Retarded!

"I was mad that Pearl Paint closed down recently. But when I think about it, all that store does is enable shitty art, so no big loss."

Rob,

Pearl Paint was there before Gentrification, before the "Retardo Shit", it's sad to see it gone.

I miss Crazy Eddies. I'm with the What on Canal St. It's all gone now. I particularly miss rummaging around in all the scrap electronics stores. Found many weird old knobs and switches, quite few of which wound up on my guitars and amps. Are the plastics stores still there? Probably not. I have no interest in YSL knockoffs and non-functional fake Rolexes...

What, blame Jeff Bezos. But the city has cracked down on bootleg merchandise too. I took some out of town friends some time ago out for a Sunday NY outing. First, St. Patrick's Cathedral for Mass, then to Canal St. for some knockoff pocketbooks. First, there was a bomb scare at St. Patrick's, so that didn't work. Then we went down to Canal Street just in time for a big raid on bootleg shops.

I was on Canal St. in the Chinatown zone (between Centre and the bridge) last Tuesday and the week before. It looked pretty busy to me but I didn't walk to Broadway. No need for me! I bought a bunch of extremely cheap fruits and veggies each day, but last Tuesday was so cold that the little outdoor market on Mulberry just south of Canal was closed. Every once in a while, in the service of purveyors of 1 percent goods, the government shuts down a block of booths with phony handbags and perfumes and watches but the shills (Handbag? Gucci? Coach?) were still on the street soliciting business for their underground showrooms.

Unfortunately my daughter's favorite food carts, by the East Broadway stop on the F and on Grand between Bowery and Christy/Forsyth, seemed to be gone. Chow fun with 2 sauces and fish balls.

Yeah, it was mostly pretty weak. Also pretty cheap. You could get stronger stuff, but why bother when you could just roll another. By the time I stopped smoking, around '82 or so, it was so strong I couldn't smoke a whole joint. And it was getting pricey. I came back to NYC in '80, moved to Clinton Hill, a freind took me to one of the weed shops to get a dime, and I was fucking flabbergasted at how little you got for $10. I was used to getting a whole ounce for $25. Oh well. Time passes, things change. I don't smoke it no more anyways.

Perhaps because I had a grandmother who lived in the Glenwood projects, who couldn't go out at night. Yes, the lawlessness must have been great if you wanted to smoke weed in Times Square and wherever else pleased you. For my grandmother, she would have been happy to be able to go for a stroll at night, but that was not advisable.

And if you think it was just crime and dirt, then your memory is failing. How about subways and roads that were falling apart, with not a penny spent towards their improvement? How about racial tensions? How about a police force that was so corrupt that it was the subject of numerous films, most notably Serpico? It wasn't called "the ungovernable city" for nothing.

Yep. Anything from the PS2 generation and prior is best on CRTs. I kick myself in the nuts for getting rid of a ginormous Sony Trinitron a few years ago. :( It weighed more than an elephant, but has such a beautiful picture for older consoles that no modern TV's can touch.

The government stepped in and gave out housing loans to tons of people back then. Lives and familes were started in the suburbs and generations of wealth transfer ensued. Minorities and Gutter-Whites like my family didn't have opportunities to get those loans so they festered in the inner city and some moved out of the city, but they made smaller cities they moved to terrible places.

My parents bought a Levitt house and moved from the city in 1952. They were fortunate that they could borrow the down payment (lol, like $1000) from my grandparents, and that they were white. The house they bought had a deed restriction that it couldn't be purchased by anyone who wasn't white. Fortunately, Jews were allowed.

Paying the mortgage on a 2-bedroom house in Hicksville on a 60x100 piece of land, including taxes and utilities, was considerably cheaper than rent on a one-bedroom apartment in the Bronx.

LOL, What, I moved to Clinton Hill before you did--1989. On my block (Grand between Gates and Lexington), there were no white residents before the condo on the east side of the block. I was one of 6 white people in the condo. A few (very few) Hispanic families, the rest black.

Now if somebody gropes or flashes or whatever in the subway, they take a picture and it is front page news. Dealing with this was part of my daily commute when I first started working. Once I met the same pervert on a Monday and Wednesday of the same week. Another time, I expressed some annoyance about another perv and he punched me in the eye. So much weirdness and scariness in the subway. Now it is just your garden variety spreader. No problem. Also on tony Brooklyn Heights promenade a women friend and I got held up at gunpoint by a couple of teenagers. They got caught in the act though. But this stuff was commonplace. Actually there is more, but never mind..... I hated all of that crap.

When I first started taking the subways to get to high school, I twice made the mistake of attempting to use the restrooms at the Union Square stop. Both times there was a guy in the urinal next to me having fun with himself, and looking my way. That was the end of using the bathrooms in the subways.

Dona,

I was crossing the street at Atlantic and Washington Aves, so I'm standing on the corner and a Fucktard gave me "what the fuck you're doing around here" look, pulled her iPhone from her pocket and turned her back to me and started dialing. I was saying to myself "Oh shit, this Bitch is dumb as hell". Little did she know Homegirl was a Candidate for the "Blue Light Special". That's why you have to be aware of your surroundings.

Plus Dona, So help me God! Those Bars on Fulton St (Hanson Dry and the other one on Waverley Pl.). People come outta those places falling down drunk!!! I mean throwing up, stumbling down the street drunk. Man Brooklyn has change, boy if this was "Back in the days", sheesh!

Why is Fulton getting the bars and Myrtle and DeKalb getting the restaurants? I do not like walking around those bars at night; you are right. People get dead drunk and scary. After those shootings (there is a bar near Putnam on Fulton (Lux or something) that had shootings and Chance 11/country club diner. There were 2 shootings there. One died. Plus some drunken clown driving had a 4 car accident, kindly smashing the side of my parked car. Plus remember that guy Kelly? He got shot and killed near Putnam. There was another one too.

"what was name of the old italian restaurant on dekalb on north side and the dive bar(couple steps down) on south side?"

Cino's. Used to go there all the time. They sold out in the late '90's. I was on the dive bar's (Alibi Club) softball teamin the early '80's. I moved to Clinton Hill in 1980. There was a tiny enclave of Pratt alumni who had stayed in the neighborhood, there were some old Italians, lots of black people. Relatively mellow, but Myrtle was a little rowdy. The surrounding areas were somewhat sketchy, some projects around. The old Italian daycare lady our daughter went to (a retired pediatric ER nurse) was the first Italian family in the neighborhood, when it was all black and irish. They were treated with suspicion. Between the World Wars, I think she said. I liked it. Felt pretty safe, although I was 6'5" and male, so my bar might be lower.
January 19, 2015 11:18 PM - BirdnestHead
At that time there were also a lot of Pratt students renting in the neighborhood. Apts were cheap and spacious, all the landlords were used to renting to students, it was all pretty fluid. Credit checks? No. Real Estate Agents? No. First and last month rent, if you had a lease. Security deposit? No.
January 19, 2015 11:25 PM - BirdnestHead
At that time Pratt had no dormitories. They had just finished the new Gym building and there was a big athletic field behind. Later, they built a dorm on the athletic field and surrounded it with huge fences and light poles. There was one entrance through the fence, with a guardhouse to walk through. It was ugly. We called it "Dachau Walk".

I do my very best to avoid the 'general public'. Don't take trains or buses. Don't go to Target or Costco or Macy's. Don't go to ball games or concerts.

I find the masses to be rude and distasteful. Not a fan of pushing, shoving, spitting, horking, nose blowing into the gutter, cutting lines, starting fights or other aggressive behavior.

Low class, New Yorkers (whether born here or not) are far worse a breed than the new mid-westerners in my book. Yes, I get the joke about some of the new young people and their quirky styles and habits, but find it very easy to laugh off. The 'good old days' are overrated. Because so many areas have improved, there is simply more territory where the scum cannot be found. I like that. Guess that makes me elitist but it has little to do with money and education and more to do with manners and respect for others.
