Trying this Italian place called Al Dente for lunch. Ordering the spaghetti carbonara. Already disappointed with the short pour of wine. Middle eastern waitresses.

LOL...young guy, in 20s, maybe Aussie comes in with older Asian girl trying to look younger and dressed a bit tarty...no doubt Filipina...with a bitchy face.
This is an age old story...young guy with initial stages of yellow fever and she sinks her claws into him and reels him in. He's got a roaming eye. This won't last.

And the waitresses were from Nepal. very pretty. They must be from close to India as they looked more Imdian and spoke with more of an Indian accent than what I recognize as a Nepalese accent

On a scale of 1 to 10, how proper was the carbonara? Looks a little heavy-handed on the parsley.

I was hoping that was a really big glass. Short pours are unconscionable.

Having french roast Ethiopian Yirgacheffe this morning. A bit too bright and acidic for me. Prefer a darker flavour...

Part, I love the Lincrusta in the first house. That's the patterned wallpaper wainscoting in the hallway, in case anyone doesn't know. The second house isn't doing it for me. The ones yesterday were great.

I went to an outdoor brunch today, sponsored by the Washington Park Association. It's the only other private city park in the country like Gramercy Park. They do this once a month on Sundays, weather permitting. It was pot luck, with muffins, fruit, pastries, plus carafes of coffee, etc. One of the women made omelettes all morning, made to order with all kinds of great ingredients. My omelette was better than 80% of the ones I've had in restaurants.

Anyway, I met people I knew from organizations and events I've been a part of, and met a whole new crop of nice people. Everyone invites you over to see their homes, and it turns out we all frequent the same establishments and know many of the same people. Troy can be a real small town. The biggest ego boost came from a woman who recognized me from the NY Times article and my Troy piece in the Daily News. I was out on the street taking pictures of buildings at the time, which figures. It was a lot of fun, and today is a beautiful chilly early fall day, and the park was beautiful. I'll definitely come back for another brunch.

The other thing I noticed today in my meandering bike ride is that development along 4th Ave is accelerating. There are five contiguous buildings on 4th Ave and Baltic that are slated for demolition and development, as evidenced by the rat bait warning signs. That is an impressive assemblage of building lots.

R'andi;

Rode my bike past your place this afternoon. Was on the lookout for you and Brandi, but no luck.

I also saw that POS frame house across Myrtle that brownstoner was lamenting might be torn down for a development. Really?????? They're lamenting that a run-down frame house across the street from the PJ' might get developed?? Fifteen years ago, the thought of any development across from a project would have been unimaginable. Tear the thing down and build some much-needed housing.

I thought you planned to put the crib in the little loft room you built. The only thing I didn't like about the apartment was how tall the steps were to the loft--too tall for a senior citizen like me! But I saw you have the crib below. Makes sense with a baby.

All the people who have W/D in their unit did it illegally. If caught, decent fines. Laundry prices are pretty cheap and the room is right down stairs and I have yet to enough "no units free". The breakeven is a ton of years and I would take on maintenance responsibility of the W/D unit. The convenience of personal unit doesn't outweigh the cost outlay, fear of being caught by bldg mgt, etc hence unfavorable risk:reward curve

Rf, transactional cost of selling real estate ~8-9% so he ain't pocketing the ASK amount. Don't forget the owed mortgage. It'll still be a big net but far from the ASK

Big enough net to pay someone to snake a drain on open house day! The light bulb was a joke.

yes. This sums it up...

At issue is how to hold the election for Hong Kong's Chief Executive in 2017. The draft proposal set to be approved on Sunday would limit the number of candidates to two or three, each of whom would have to be endorsed by at least one half of the 1,200-member nominating committee. While Hong Kong voters may be able to "elect" their leader, they'll hardly enjoy a real choice.

when the UK owned HK, london appointed a head, no elections. Now there are elections but the candidates have to be endorsed by Beijing

"Not all drivers are participating in the protest. Adam Cosentino, who has been driving for Uber in New York for the past two years, said he isnít aware of the protest and wouldnít join it.

ďIím not complaining because Iím still busy and I make money,Ē said Cosentino, who drives for UberX."

I don't really get all these separatist movements. Same thing in Spain with Catalonia wanting to break off.
On the other hand... of Alabama, Mississippi, etc wanted to leave....I would be fine with that.
