Top Google search today: Monica Lewinsky

"I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Monica Lewinsky"

More famous than "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country" which are also very odd words coming from a Democrat, especially these days

So last night I am sitting at the bar at Amis and this guy and a woman come in, nicely dressed, him in a suit. They sit next to me and I immediately tell him that he has a dopleganger a block away who lives near us and walks two pugs and he says "That's me, Elliot"

I just didnt recognize him in a suit, so out of context. i had never seen the wife before.

Sconces are WAAAAAAAAAAAY harder to select from than fireplace mantels. This isn't going well.

I need two pairs or 4 of a kind. 2 to go left and right of a non-existent mirror above the soon-to-be-delivered fireplace and the other two on the brick wall, left and right of the newly-painted cabinet.

I'm looking at antique, vintage and new ones. Feeling very Goldilocks about the options. This one is too, rococo, this one too industrial, this one too colonial, this one too modern.

Nothing is juuuuust right.

Yes, they do, R'andi! I stumbled upon them last week and had forgotten about them already. Thanks. I like this one but feel that that Edison bulb thing is tired and very restaurant-like. Brighter, traditional bulb will be ugly. Solid metal shade versions focus light down to floor. I need less task, more ambient light.

Postal code boundaries often have nothing to do with political boundaries, especially at the sub-county level.
Likewise, post office city/town names do not necessarily map to legal cities/towns.

I really should start posting regularly "over there" again, to combat some of the mis-informed comments. I won't even touch Cate's analysis - I wouldn't know where to begin, so let me focus on a simple point. Housing projects and similar developments are high-rise, NOT high density. In real estate, density is expressed in terms of households per acre of land. On that basis, a housing project has about the same density as a typical rowhouse neighborhood in Brooklyn. The idea behind these developments was not to increase density, but to increase the amount of parkland and open space, hence high-rises were used.

You're welcome.

We have to assume that everyone in the finance world is honest and above-board. That's the only way it could be. This is why it's ok to appoint CEOs to be Secretary of Treasury, or Head of the Federal Reserve.

Was in Berlin last summer. Very Brooklyn-y indeed. I liked it, and you don't even need to speak German (though I do). No A/C in a lot of places though.

I go to Rahway - or is it Ramsey? - to do my shopping nowadays.
May 7, 2014 10:05 PM - petebklyn
try Rumson
May 7, 2014 10:06 PM - Deleted
Rumson is definitely a 1% town.

No cheap fruit & veg here as far as I know.
Lots of florists for some reason.

"No A/C in a lot of places though."

Have the Germans discovered that modern innovation called deodorants? I certainly hope so.

Thanks, rf!

How ya feelin'?

Is bacon, egg, cheese on a roll breakfast sandwich just a new york thing? I am used to paying $3-$4 for one (mostly in midtown) . I paid $6.50 for grilled cheese sandwich for breakfast here. I asked for a buttered roll here and they look at me as if I am speaking foreign language.
May 7, 2014 10:14 PM - petebklyn
they do sell some strange things they call bagels.

nice sushi (nicer than NYC) is cheap in Orange county there. houses are much cheaper too. cost of living in NYC is whack - especially the wannabe hoods with crazy expenses
May 7, 2014 10:15 PM - Cobble B. Hiller
Breakfast items are weird in SF. You can find a croissant easier than a buttered roll. They do not know from an egg sandwich. No capisce!

I'm super bummed out about the MET. G'dammit!
May 7, 2014 10:23 PM - petebklyn
poor Katia said that commenters on Brownstoner are 'harsh'.
May 7, 2014 10:25 PM - petebklyn
you bummed? how about me? I'm the one who considers that market my pantry.
May 7, 2014 10:29 PM - Cobble B. Hiller
No doubt, Pete! I'm sorry for all of us! My elderly, too. Am I or their aide supposed to schlep to Key Food? I guess so. Can't buy everything at TJs, Sahadi or Pacific Green. And we have no car.
May 7, 2014 10:31 PM - More4Less
Cobble, what train station were you using when you were in "southern BK"? am asking cause a buddy is asking if I'm interested in joining him and his brother in buying some aptmts in Kensington near church ave F station. These are the same dudes who asked me to join them for a lot of sponsor aptms in Midwood. should've went in with them on those as they're collecting good rent on them. am not familiar with Kensington other than ocean pkway, dahill rd, macdonald ave - streets I drove thru for various reasons - clueless about the side streets there
May 7, 2014 10:33 PM - rf
Finally feeling better today, Cobble! Even did the laundry.
May 7, 2014 10:37 PM - petebklyn
ever been in the CTown on Bond?
May 7, 2014 10:38 PM - Cobble B. Hiller
Glad to hear, rf!

M4L, we were a block from Q at Cortelyou Rd. Six takes the F from his place more often than we ever did. It was a hike from our place in DP.

It's still very depressing news to me.

She is....so....damned....insufferable.

thx Cobble. Guess I'll have to stroll the hood this weekend to get a feel first. From what I remember, that area around church ave F is hit / miss as it's near the commercial area which is ugly street scape.

nite all

M4L - kensington is a solid place to be. Try for the apartments between Ocean Parkway and C I Avenue, close to the Ditmas Park amenities on Cortelyou. Cheaper than DP proper.

I'm by the Ditmas stop on the F. It's the border of a big Orthodox world, and Church is all Bangladeshi.
May 7, 2014 10:49 PM - Cobble B. Hiller
F at Church is not a pretty area. Though it is very busy.
May 7, 2014 10:49 PM - sixyearsandcounting
Let me know if you're around, M4L - I don't explore that area too much over my church but I can show you around some.

I've been meaning to go to Denny's Steak Pub by the Church Ave F. At my local dive bar, which is very very divey, they say Denny's is "like here, but moreso." Of course there hasn't been steak served there in decades.

I should meet her one day.

I think the express bus went by Denny's, if it's the place I'm thinking of. Very dive-y looking. Properly so!
May 7, 2014 11:01 PM - sixyearsandcounting
Yeah, I saw a guy banging on the door at 10:30 am once, demanding to be let in.

"Place don't open til 11," a passerby told him.

It was good, Cobble - some drama (scroll back to Monday's OT) but ended with a kiss. Her schedule makes it difficult but whatever.
May 7, 2014 11:06 PM - Cobble B. Hiller
Yep! That's the place! The express bus went right by it!

May 7, 2014 11:20 PM - Partridge
I haven't looked but sounds like B'stoner picked up her piece about Met from her blog. Pardon me for asking.
May 7, 2014 11:20 PM - Cobble B. Hiller
Ok, LP, maybe one Saturday? Or an evening, if free?
May 7, 2014 11:21 PM - Partridge

May 7, 2014 11:29 PM - Cobble B. Hiller
Snort! Let's not abuse Katia by bringing them into the picture. Besides, it will be more fun to gossip about them. ; )
