Pretty flowers. Good week ending, especially because I'll be helping with the Hoyt St Asso. Plant Sale.

I used to get 'volunteered' for it annually.

I know, pep, that's why I added 'looking'.

I volunteered with that plant sale a few times about 20 years ago, rower. Frankly, it was unpleasant. The personalities were very unfriendly, except for Martin. I gave up and joined the CH plant people.

Martin was the one that roped me in, after a few years of my buying plants. There were a couple of ladies, at the sale organizing the delivery, who were downright nasty to me. I tried to ignore it as their being stressed — as in: maybe this sorting plant orders is more complicated than it seems! And I went back the 2nd year, but the atmosphere was the same—I found it hard to understand why a plant sale was so poisonous! So I didn't go back. Hope it's much more pleasant now!

It won't be finished at all. that's the reason for the hand hewn look. if I wanted painted finished ones i would just build them out of pine...kinda like the coffered ceiling look but that's too formal for that room but i was thinking of building those up in Provincetown

From that site...
"The walnut stripes are a visual representation of the Fibonacci sequence - the maple spacing is 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, etc., as you can see. You're probably thinking either, "amaaAAAaaaaazing!!" or perhaps "My weird math nerd friend would probably like this, I guess...""

"people are getting their annual evaluations."

how does this work? are people rated on a number or letter system? is this up to the discretion of one person?
Edited at April 25, 2014 10:36 AM
#58
April 25, 2014 10:41 AM - BoerumHillScott
The eval system is complicated and goes through several phases including self-assessment, manager review, group review, scaling, adjusting, and finally the formal evaluation.
The end result is a rating from 1 to 5 for each of 5-12 goals and 10 competencies that translate into an overall rating of 1 to 5.

Corcoran has the most resources, and therefore can usually market any listing better than a boutique agency. But then again, I'm pretty biased.
#65
April 25, 2014 10:54 AM - BoerumHillScott
I am biased, but Corcoran also has the advantage that they are big enough so that people go directly to their site to look for listings. I doubt that is a huge deal, but you never know.

I also think there is a comfort level with both buyers and agents when they see Corcoran – they know the listing is legit and they can expect a certain level of service and professionalism.

"people go directly to their site to look for listings"

this seems important to me. and the name brand trust factor. we bought our place from Christmas Reality, and i was incredibly sketched out. BUT the only reason we got the place was because it was a sketchy listing that i believe few people saw. so from a buyer POV weird might be good, but from a seller POV not so much perhaps.

I don't wish Mr. B. ill, but I personally would never do business with the guy (which doesn't mean a hill of beans in the scheme of things, I know). Remember when he trashed BlankSlate's tech support team on a thread about one year ago? I just don't understand that mentality. In that case, I was glad to see that they (the tech support guys) held their own and set the record straight as to what was happening.

It may well be that that store is a drug front. Or it may just be a place where kids hang out that Mr. B. doesn't like. It would seem to me that he has a responsibility to be careful in his choice of words. As I said before, the guy has a long record of trashing people that don't suit him, without giving them a chance to put their 2 cents in.

Using "we" is financial industry practice that Mr B probably picked up in his hedge fund marketing days, and doesn't look unusual for anyone in finance, as they do the same and be read the same all day. Reason is that although it is only one writer they are speaking for the firm.

When I clicked on Etson’s crateandbarel.com link, I get the site in Japanese.
I figured out how to get in English, but now it still shows the price in Yen and tells me to call an (00+1) number for international quotes.

Some sites are too smart for their own good.

April 25, 2014 4:16 PM - BoerumHillScott

The site was smart, but not smart enough.
They used the domain name associated with my IP address, not the location of the IP address, which is not difficult to get.

I have had a few other sites assume I am in Tokyo, but all others assume English if accessing the .com site instead of .jp, and most let you easily switch locations.

Haiku Syllables,/ Some 47,000,/ on New York City
The New York Times asked readers to write a haiku about New York City. The response was as impressive as the city itself. A panel of judges chose their favorite entries.

I hear them fighting
Through the thin wall between us —
but I don’t take sides.

Three abreast, strolling, chatting:
I want to shove you.

Oy! Speaking of bad commutes...6 train went rogue after 14th st. Conducter calling to Driver...what's happening why are we waiting so long? Should I close the doors? Eventually the doors do close...and with no announcement, we go express to BBridge station! Conductor starts apologizing profusely! We land at BBridge, conductor continues, over PA, to ask the driver if he's ok, what's happening, do you need help! No response that we could hear. But even once off the train, the conductor kept calling over the PA. Weird! And a bit scary.

Thousands pile onto the platform, up the stairs and over to the uptown platform. I go up, think better of it, and go back down to Brooklyn bound 4/5 to Nevins St.

Oy! No idea what happened!

There's a fellow Nintendophile who works at Gamestop (actually a number of gamestops over the years) who I have a non sexual crush on. We conversated today about some games and i'm bringing in my obscure vintage virtualboy for him to try out on Monday on my lunch hour at work. I want to ask him to come to my Mario Kart party next month but I don't want to come across as a weirdo, and definitely don't want to be perceived as gay in any way (I was really non gay in my overall manner today, but I'm sure he has seen me over the years, like 10 years?!, as being gay). I think he actually lives in my neighborhood too because I've seen him twice in the neighborhood, but all the gamestops he's worked at were in manhattan.

okay, Vulcan Kush and Super Mario 3D World. Ugh I have to go back through worlds 1-4 and collect all the green stars, I hate collecting shit in video games, especially when you HAVE to collect them all in order to progress. I blame that little dickface Pokemon.

LOL so documentary filmmaker woman said she didn't want to date anymore because I'm going to Abu Dhabi in the fall. Well, last night I saw her ex-bf at an academic workshop in my department - they dated for three years and clearly she's still getting over him. I'd never met him before. Anyway, some of the other grad students and I pilfered a few bottles of wine from the reception afterwards and got drunk, and I texted her that I saw her ex at the workshop.

Me: I saw _____ at [university] today.
Her: What?
Her: How is that possible?
Her: [Ex] is in [another country].
Her: ?
Her: Hello?
Me: Sorry was with friends and am getting on subway now.
Her: What???? Are you sure it's him???
Her: Can you call me?

She called when I got home. Apparently he told her this particular workshop was in [large Middle Eastern city] and not NYC. She was NOT HAPPY. BUSTED!

"A Washougal woman is suing the owner of a pet duck in Estacada, Ore.

Cynthia Ruddell claims Lolita Rose's duck attacked her after it wandered down the street.

Ruddell's attorney, Gregory Price, told KATU, "... The duck flapped its wings at her and knocked her back and she fell down on an outstretched hand and fractured her wrist in two spots."
The incident happened May 7, 2012. Ruddell broke her right wrist, sprained or strained her elbow and shoulder, and suffered a rotator cuff injury.
The lawsuit claims Rose knew the duck had, "Abnormally dangerous propensities in attacking people."
Rose is accused of "needlessly endangering the public" because she didn't keep the duck contained and didn't warn neighbors about the danger.
"We had neighbors that indicated this duck was a crazy duck that attacked kids at the school bus stop and other people before," Price told KATU.
The suit seeks $25,000 for medical expenses and $250,000 for her pain, her suffering and the interference her injuries have had on her normal, daily activities."

Just got home from concert. It was "interesting"--atonal music. The choristers were all in black, but all different clothes (were told to bring whatever black clothes they had and the wardrobe lady picked) and there was a lot of choreography, so it was interesting to try to find my kid. But not melodic, relaxing music. And my kid drove home which is never melodic and relaxing. A very long day for both of us.
