there are some huge anthills out there. granny snaps (papa snaps' mom) had HUGE anthills of fire ants in her yard in mississippi. those damn things were fierce. many a bite in my younger years. when i cried from the bites, i asked papa snaps why he let me step on the thing in the first place. his reply? "best way to learn to leave them damn ants alone. now quit cryin'!"

He got divorced in 2007 even though his wife has Parkinson's and yes, something like "Fragile X Syndrome" which I never heard of. But he got the divorce because he was fooling around with some other weather channel woman.

GM, no snow here yet, but supposed to start this afternoon and get heavy this evening. They said 4 -8 inches. We've got a dusting on the ground now, it's pretty. I like snow this time of year, if we just get dustings, that's fine. I don't have snow tires.

Speaking of Santa's reindeer....one of my friends here in Troy is sponsoring a mock trial to determine who actually wrote "A visit from St. Nicholas." Of course Clement Clark Moore is credited, but there have long been allegations that it was actually written by someone else, an upstater named Henry Livingston, Jr. No one disputes that the first publication of the poem, which singlehandedly created the modern Santa Claus, was in the Troy Sentinel, in 1823.

Here's the link for the press release. It's going to be fun. I recently met one of the lawyers, Jack Casey. He's a character. Dave would love his house. He recently had a mural painted in his office, see below. It's of the Hudson Valley and Troy.

Weddings: http://www.nytimes.com/2013/11/03/fashion/weddings/a-romance-with-a-long-interruption.html

“She was listening to Bjork before anyone else was,” Mr. Sibson said.

"She’s very social and attends every society event in New York,” said her sister, Elisabeth van Lawick van Pabst-Koch. “She loves to travel and will hop on a plane to Bahrain or wherever just to visit somebody.”

"Ms. Koch’s dog, Sir William Sugarplum, helped walk her down the aisle. Ms. Koch’s sister, who is a milliner in Beijing, had prepared hats and headpieces for many of the women in attendance."

"The word “starling” holds multiple meanings for the couple, who believe they are creatures from the stars."

I know, Six. But this girl's first choice is MIT for sure.

My kid had a tough year last year and this year her grades are tippy-top (not so last year) with a very rigorous schedule. She decided to forego EA/ED because she wanted to make sure schools see her mid-year report.

She has many friends at Tech and elsewhere who are finding out Friday/this weekend/Monday about EA/ED. Some of her schools have rolling decisions but I think she'll have to wait until the end of March to find out about her favorites.

It's still not as bad as the NYC high school admissions process!

True dat, Benson. Cooper eng grads like the money available in finance. Overheard conversation in elevator other day, two eng students discussing their intentions to go into finance. After they got off, I said to the third student, "We need more engineers, and instead we're getting more finance guys." The student said they were a chem eng hoping to go into oil refining.

Ha yeah. Honors weight. My school weighted honors 1.05 and ap 1.1.

And there were only one AP class in a handful of subjects - and only the top 10 kids in the honors pre-req courses could apply.

I think our valedictorian had like a 103.5 average. Lol.

Hey Kens;

I was thinking of you today, when I went past your friend's place in my old neighborhood (Nikki's).

Heya Benson,

Should have stopped by for an espresso or a panini :-).

He is not too happy lately. Says location became terrible. No food places around him are doing well except maybe Italia Pizza and Chinese food places.

Wants to sell maybe next year and do same thing but in a different hood.

Cool, Kens. I love that it's been snowing all day... Saw this quote in the airport yesterday "When it starts snowing, Buffalo keeps going."

Yeah I don't mind it either as long as you have a good car and good pair of shoes.

Yes. A good pair of boots and a good car window scraper are absolute essentials...
