Oh, how lovely! We need a set up like that in Brooklyn.

GM

This photo's subject matter was inspired by Pete describing being at the lake house yesterday. Floating. Cool water. Relaxing. I'm imagining a breeze. Wait, oops,....that's my air-conditioner...

GM. Love Adirondack chairs.

Nice to look at but for sitting in only if they have cushions.
#4
July 6, 2013 7:43 AM - Partridge
I carry a built-in cushion behind me for that purpose.

Ha! Last night me and my roommates were talking about Chantix and they asked if I ever had crazy dreams when I took it and I said yes and my roommates boyfriend told me that he knows I already have crazy dreams cuz he hears me scream in my sleep a lot (many people have told me this and it's always embarrassing to know that) and of COURSE I wake up in the middle of the night run into the living room and started screaming, but I caught myself this time. Forgot what the hell I was screaming though, but I remember saying sorry afterwards.

Those chairs look comfortable. All chairs look comfortable other than the dumb folding metal chairs in meetings. SO uncomfortable. I wish I could bring one of those inflatable donut seats or a cushion but im too afraid people might think I have hemmeroids or something, or worse that im a creampuff :-/

omg I should totally just bring my folding beach chair. Would that be frowned upon?

I visited Lake Balaton once back in the late '80. Huge, huge lake. Not all that picturesque but the guy watching of 20 something East Germans was beyond compare. Each one would have qualified for 'the perfect human specimen.'

The second chair from the left is an ass splinter waiting to happen.

I didn't mind our Adirondack chairs without cushions, but 'perhaps' I too have a little built-in padding. BnH liked a pillow behind his back when he was sitting reading for long stints.

I don't like how the bottoms of lakes feel, they kinda creep me out and who knows how many heads are sitting at the bottom.

I don't like hard chairs because I have a boney white boy ass and it hurts my coxxyx (sp?) bone. I don't think i'd want a fat ass though, I never understood how people with big full asses manage to poo. Doesn't it get all messy with that much cheek?

Lake bottoms can be creepy. Having a dock to jump off of helps. Unless it's a rocky lake, then it's not so bad.

Random question, but I was thinking about this the other day. Are there places that rent cappucinno/espresso machines? I was thinking about our office holiday party (I know it's so far in advance..) and how it seems like the only non alcoholic drink options we ever seem to have is sparkling water (I kinda hate sparking water and I think if if that's all I was able to drink at a holiday party I'd be resentful). So I'm hoping this year we could rent one for the office party. Of course there's a gazillion starbucks right outside so I could always just keep going out for coffee, but it would be nice to have one in the office during the party.

We visited with Cate, her husband and the new baby yesterday. We showed them a bit of Troy, which they loved. Would have loved to have shown them more, but next time.

It was really hot here, around 92. I think you hit 100, right? It's almost enough to make you want to take a dip in the Hudson to cool off. Cobble's photo looks great.

I'm sure, not good. I too have concern. Tough to learn too much from suppliers. Often don't even know the country of origin with stones on the internet. Always better to buy from top importers at Gem Shows but pricing reflected.

Laundry done. Doggy walked and fed. She ate every kibble this morning. I added tiny bit of chop meat, that's why. She is too thin.

Moving on to the cat next door. Feed, replace water, empty litter box, pet. He is such a great cat.

Zero satisfaction with that one. My cat is very dog-like. Greets me at the door, says hello with several meows, brings me to his food and box. Then he rubs against me (nn = no nothing) while I'm at the sink and purrs like mad at me!

korean airlines have the worst safety resords of any country. Delta severed their relationship with KAL yeArs ago because of it. It's a cultural thing. Most of the pilots are ex air force and the culture has, for many years, not allowed the copilot to question the decision making of the pilots.

I have a followup appointment with both of the doctors/places that are sending me nothing but absurd bills. of course, I skipped the followup appointments with both of those doctors (I don't know why I completely forgot about them, I was so caught up in not drinking that first week I totally forgot I was supposed to go back). ugh

I could have don't this thing completely on my own (for the most part I did) now looking back and avoided all these bills. It's like seriously, paying close to a 1000 dollars just to know that I wasn't a junkie slut hooked on all kinds of drugs and STD ridden?! I could have told them that for free! Oh well I guess what's done is done and chances are I probably wouldn't have gotten sober if I hadn't gone this route anyway. It did start with the Rational Recovery book, but I wasn't really doing anything with it concretely until I flushed myself down the medical vortex toilet. I really should have done my homework beforehand and made sure only to go to in-network hospitals and doctors :( That was unfortunately the last thing on my mind a month ago though.

It's okay to comment that people are attractive, but not okay to comment on people when they are not attractive? Sounds like a double standard to me. We live in a vain shallow society that everyone has had a hand in creating and NO ONE is immune to judgement calls based on looks, regardless of how much people want to deny that fact. I don't think she's unattractive at all, but I can see how someone could see that because her facial features are all crooked, but maybe that's because she was hit in the face with tennis balls too many times or something?!

I also thought detox was in treatment, thank god I didn't full go thru with that, and I swear the butt doctor WAS in network, I don't know what happened. You guys are actually missing the sexism. It would NOT be OK to talk about her beauty either at that time. No, that at all! YOU can lust over a beautiful woman without it being sexist.

Imagine you are nominated for an Academy Award. You win. Afterwards you are interviewed by Access Hollywood. The reporter says, "Wow! Where did you get those great shoulders from?"

Inherently a correct observation. Shoulders are great, yes, but it would be inappropriate. At that time and place, in front of your peers and the world, the objectification of you and your shoulders would be sexist.

gack. Crazy dream. I was forced to move out of park slope by a roving band of people with pitchforks screaming GET HIM GET HIM GET HIM. Apparently I was being accused of being a dog snatcher and a furniture thief! I don't think accused is the right word cuz in parts of the dream I remember dogs and furniture that was clearly not mine but I had with me. I knew it was park slope because somewhere in the dream I turned the corner and saw a sign that said Park Slope City Limit. I will not analyze this dream.

I don't know if I should organize my closets/clothes or go to the beach again today :( I found a gay/lesbo/tranny meeting in park slope on 8th and 8th today. Is the tree sitting in a pot w/ a lot of water in it? If so, drain it. If there's no hole in the bottom of the pot, put it in one that has a hole. You might want to 'amend' the soil in the pot so it drains better.

Back from Saratoga. Kinda disappointed. The place reeks of money, and the downtown area is too done. Not very many eclectic shops, just super high end, plus the Gap and other mall spots. You know you're in a WASP bastion when there is a Talbot's. One gets the impression their downtown Chamber of Commerce rules with an iron hand. As per the local industry, there's horse art, horse names, horsey stuff everywhere, plus weird combinations of the town's other big tourist attraction = dance. There were ballet shoe art pieces everywhere, plus ballet shoes decorated with horse shoes. (Someone lost their mind, there.) Saratoga has a very large performing arts center, which is the summer home of the NYC Ballet, and other premiere dance companies visit as well.

I wanted to see some old Victorian spas, but they are mostly gone. We only saw one large old bath place, and it's now part of the park. We did drive up past downtown on Broadway and saw some jaw dropping Victorian mansions. Figures, as this was a resort town for some of NYC's wealthiest. I guess appropriately, if you turn off Broadway and go down any side street, two blocks away are the small cottages that must have housed the staff for these mansions. Interesting sociologically, as some are really run down and, like lots of upscale places, there's always the have-nots. Someone has to walk the horses and clean up behind them.

We'd like to go back on a weekday when it's cooler and much less crowded. Place was packed today, and horse racing doesn't start until July 17th. 4th of July weekend tourists, I guess.

It was fun to get out, though, glad we did.

Pete, my Lear is in the shop this month.

snappy - you need a small transistor radio - there are lots of good shows on, especially nights and weekends (but not much on weekend nights!). You can listen on your phone but depends on if you can charge it easily.

so glad you're feeling well enough to be bored!

When I was in high school, I saw Chicago (the rock group) at Saratoga. My friend's father drove us, and we never went into the city. My first outdoor rock concert too. It took us about three hours to get there, this was before I88 was finished.

Ugh yeah Beach riff-raff. i.e. FAMILIES. I wish there was a separate beach for families, they are SO annoying. All they do is yell and scream at each other, run around kicking sand on people who are trying to relax, gorge themselves with junkfood (usually leaving all their crap behind when they leave), and probably don't shower before they come to the beach. Luckily I can tune them out for the most part, but they are still gross and unwanted. I guess that's the price one has to pay for only having access to a ghetto beach.

Rob, you could take the LIRR to Long Beach. That's a very nice beach, and you can walk from the train station to the beach. It's about a 4 block walk.

That Blue Pearl Vet Emergency place is so nice that I get the feeling it is a cult or religious organization.

Anyway, she is in no immediate danger so they were kind enough to suggest that I have blood and urine work done at a regular vet as their charges would be much higher. Pup seem fine now.

I had come home from work to find that she had vomited her entire breakfast up and urinated. She has never done that before. When she woke up she staggered around. Couldn't get her footing and looked week. I was concerned that she was dehydrated.

Likely explanation is the abrupt change of diet (store did not have her usual prescription food) and her arthritis. Vet seemed very surprised that I had not taken her back to vet in 2 years considering her renal issues. Well these tests can get expensive...

CGar, sorry, but for the 4th or 5th time I will bother you about this. Your vet that you love, love is Cobble Hill on Court St, right. I want to follow up with a new vet closer than my Dyker Heights one.

Sorry for the alarm and thank you all for your concern!

I had the good fortune to have a friend whose father was a cop - a hack inspector who worked a lot in the theater district. He always had dress rehearsal tickets to Ed Sullivan; Hullabaloo. I remember seeing the Rolling Stones in October 1964. I was impressed by the fact that Mick Jagger did the show in a sweatshirt and not some fancy getup. I saw the Herman's Hermits - another real highlight. ;-)

And my boyfriend in college used to take me to the Fillmore East. I saw so many shows there - ones I remember (lots of marijuana smoke - if you didn't smoke you got high from just breathing.) Grateful Dead, the Band, Altman brothers, Miles Davis (didn't like his show), Roberta Flack, Taj Mahal -- a lot of shows, incontrast to now, which is nothing.

Glad it wasn't something awful, Partridge. Snappy likes a new one near her. Slopey likes one on 5th Av. I use Animal Kind - 7th Av. & 11th.
I had to infuse Nick & Beagle - I lack the Flo Nightingale gene but managed to do it for several years.

I'm glad your dog is ok, Partridge. I've had my share of trips to the Vet with my cats in their senior years. I have done a lot of crying in Vet's offices, more than any doctor or dentist. Once I had a late night vet emergency room trip with Aldo (long story about a wound that got infected) and I was so upset thinking he would die that I sobbed hysterically in a taxi about 1 in the morning the whole way to the vet. The taxi driver never said a word, just drove me there. Aldo used up one of his lives with that situation and it left me exhausted.

They say cats are much easier at receiving subcutaneous fluids. I had to bring my dog to the vet to have it done for a long while after her last serious bout. $30 a pop, 2x a week and far away from where I am living now. Always took 2 vet techs and me to keep her from wiggling away and springing a leak. Rough stuff on me and her.
July 7, 2013 11:39 PM - Arkady

I never pump my own gas. I only go to full service stations. It is just a thing I do.

Tonight I had to pump. Needed gas to get to vet. My regular stations closed. I swear I strained a muscle in my arm from the experience. The hose required such pressure to keep engaged while squeezing and pushing. What do little old ladies do?

No, Dave, I mean I 88, which runs from Binghamton through Oneonta to Schenectady. Before the highway was finished, you had to take much smaller roads, like route 23 roughly east/west. I do know what I'm talking about, you know.
