you are sounding like warren buffett now. But some of that over-exuberance in gold buying was because of political scare tactics.....Think of all those commercials about run for the hills -- fed printing money.....inflation......essentially trying to discredit Obama. And the rightwing survivalist folks drank the koolaid.

Hey Slopey! I'm trying to learn a little (via internet) about Light and Air Easements. I may have the opportunity to add a lot-line window in my living room as neighboring building is coming down and townhouse replacing it.

Anyone have any experience with easements? What should it cost me? Would I create it with the builder or his future buyer of townhouse?

We had this big conversation about gold going down, down, down in Oct 2010, price 1305. The market is coming off, like many commodity prices as the economy recovers, equity markets break into new highs and news of Cyprus unloading massive amounts of gold from their treasury - 10 million tons. I sold my GLX a while ago but not at the highs, somewhere around 1700. Needed the $$ for something.

A propos of nothing, I woke up with a bizarre earworm. Some of you know (and a few may even remember) "Sh Boom (Life Could Be a Dream)" by the Chords (also by the Crew-Cuts). Anyway, I worked as a counselor at a YMHA camp one summer (for the benefit of you goyim, the H stands for Hebrew). Another counselor liked to sing a parody of Sh-Boom. I'd forgotten it for years but it went something like this:

Shalom Shalom
Yarmulke yarmulke yarmulke yarm
Shalom Shalom
Yarmulke yarmulke yarmulke yarm

Life could be a dream, chicken soup and cream
If I could be in barmitzvahaland with you
There's be plenty of knish. and lots of grefitle fish
If I could be in barmitzvahaland with you

---

Anyway, I know it makes no sense and that's all I remember, but for some reason that was my earworm this morning.

Energy prices are coming off. IEA points out that demand is down in the OECD, stock levels of petroleum products highest in 23 years. Natural gas prices though have been rallying. Believe it or not, substitution of gas for diesel/gasoline is starting and commercial fleets are gradually adopting natural gas vehicles. GTL (natural gas to liquids, such as jet fuel, gasoline) technologies being launched increasing gas demand.

St. Paul was born Saul, his Jewish name, which in Hebrew meant the "desired". But he was living in Greek territory and Saulos in Greek meant a man who swayed on his feet. So he chose Paul as his Greek name. St. Luke used to refer to him as "Paul also known as Saul."

It's ridiculous when politics takes over objectivity, that's the point.
...and it works both ways remember.
The Fort Hood mass murderer (Major Hassan) was in league with a known Islamic radical and that's still being classified as a "disturbed individual" case vs. a case of a domestic terrorist infiltrator which is what it obviously was, by the Major's own statements.

partridge,
I totally agree with that concern on the numbers involved.
It would be irresponsible of the Post to put out 12 dead without some sort of major supporting evidence.
I will add again, that it continues to be irresponsible of much of the major media (Time Mag. CNN, NBC, CBS, NYTimes) to have taken the "official" White House line on the Benghazi terrorist attack on our consulate before investigating further as well.

I just thinking the same thing about tv tonight as well DIBS. That makes me feel like a horrible person though. All of these recent tragedies and bombings and killings are seriously starting to make me hate humanity and totally lose any kind of passion for life these days.

Fish don't bomb each other's tanks, why do humans?

Were the phones just overloaded or did they actually shut down cell service?
April 15, 2013 7:23 PM - sixyearsandcounting
Sounds like they actually shut it down to prevent remote-controlled detonations.

That's totally different. There were no innocent casualties (well I guess Dinky was an innocent casualty in a sense). The whole situation was more of a human error though really.

Two Broke Girls better not get preempted by this news coverage tonight. grrrr

"That is so irresponsible. Such a difficult story. So sad."

Six
"The Post is either way ahead of events or totally off the mark. Boston police deny anyone is in custody. The NY Post said the Saudi was under guard in the hospital. But *every* victim is "under guard" and "being questioned" in the hospitals, as a normal police procedure in such events."

DH
"Post also reported 12 were dead earlier. Situations like this are when the subpar journalists really show themselves."

Way more than any perception of being right-wing, the Post is regarded as trash journalism. I think that is what we were getting at with our comments.

You know what I noticed today, that the days after I go swimming in the ocean I don't feel grimey like I do most of the time. I just wish I could figure out how not to track sand back into the apartment when I get back. I brought so much sand back into the apartment, and I even threw away my beach towel at the beach. Today I noticed I had sand in my ears. how the hell does that even happen?
April 15, 2013 7:29 PM - rf
I don't need to sift through all these rumors and reports, figuring out which is which. When I got home I turned on jazz. Once they figure it out is soon enough for me.

To be fair though, Part... Is there ANY journalism that isnt trash? Not really.

I'm taking your tack, rf, but I'm listening without judgement. It's too early to tell/know anything more than we think we know right now.

I'm baking 3 chicken thighs (boneless) -- how long and at what temp ? 375 - --45 minutes?

Sounds too high and too long

definitely too long. 20-30 min.

Boneless, yes, much shorter. Test the internal temp at 20-25 mins.

Not sure if it's coming from the Buffalo or the Hamilton channel (channel 16 on my TV seems to alternate between Buffalo CBS and some local Hamilton crap)

"To be fair though, Part... Is there ANY journalism that isnt trash? Not really"

*rob* just hit the nail on the head.
What's worse after all, The Post which is unabashedely "trashy" with its page 6 and sensational headlines
or
The NY Times which plays as being the "Newspaper of Record" but will conveniently use its influence far and wide to sway public opinion under the guise of being "objective"? Where was the NYTimes on the first day after they swallowed the entire White House Benghazi-terrorist-attack-as-youtube-video -gone-wrong-story?

Let's at least start with the assumption that the majority of the journalistic profession sold itself out long ago for wanna be Katie Courics. I can respect trashing The Post if we are agreed that they are all out to shill a point of view and nothing else. Real journalists are few and far between these days.

How are we to learn from our mistakes partridge if we are caught repeating them?

I admit, in the past, I might have jumped right in and said this is obviously an Islamic radical attack. If only because we've been through so many in the past.
Thus far, I've only reported what the people on the ground are actually saying about this without posting my own opinion, so why would I sit and read as others are posting that the perceived "right wing" media is getting it wrong when we have recent cases where the "left wing" media got it wrong and nobody's mentioning their gaffes?

You have to examine the subtlelty of the comments to see what I'm getting at.

Yes, I had Storch. Oh, people were teased mercilously for taking that class! Stoners...all of us! ; )

I just got home. I went to an industry gathering; was on the train, then listened to a presentation (Geopolitical effect of new oil and gas production in US), did the networking thing, went shopping for some groceries in the hood, came back here.....

to find out about Boston!!!!!

My GOD! I guess I'll turn on the TV for a little while. Today I was thinking about evil in the world and how overwhelming sometimes it is to see real evil in action - like Newtown, this Gosnell abortionist killer in Philly, other stuff I was reading about Guatemala..... Damn.

He kept teaching well after he reached retirement age. Apparently he was divorced and his ex-wife would be entitled to 50% of his teaching, and he said "That @#$*@#)*(J#E#*($&@# won't get one damn cent of my pension" and kept teaching. He was a genius at the cynical one-liner. He finally retired sometime in the middle of the last decade, so we figured the ex-wife had passed away.

My understanding is that many of the items in the planetarium were student creations, and I know at least one of his former students who went on to a career in astronomy (though she's now doing something else, I forget what - she was also an artist).

Good night everyone.

Even though they were divorced? Is that common? I think BH's ex tried to get part or all of his pension in the divorce. He pretty much said the same thing. In the end, she got the coop, and his lawyer got him his full pension. I got a lithograph in my 'divorce'. A very nice one, but still! : P
