Happy Easter everyone!

I know it was such an absurd purchase, the vibrating chair, but it makes me happy. I can lounge on it and watch my fishies. I never ever ever really treat myself to anything, I think it was worth it, and since it was bought at housing works I think the money went to a good cause a least. I will shoot myself in the face though if when I get my dental cleaning tomorrow I find out I have cavities or something lol. I promise not to be as drama queeny about it as Randi though.

I also took down the divider plastic thingie between his and Pinky Punky Dinky II's tank and it appears like they are in love lol. Dudley is in the tank over and never had a plastic thingy to divide the tanks and he's looking at them with a bitch please look lol. Dudley is like a cranky old man. He doesn't even give a shit about the tank to his left that hosts Charlize Theron. (male). Charlize always tries to engage Dudley, but Dudley's always like I dont give a shit and turns away. <3 Dudley

UGH. Ever be in a random good mood and you question yourself why you are in a good mood and think that you shouldn't be in a good mood?! The last couple of weeks i've been in a pretty good mood, emotionally anyway, but I find myself feeling guilty about it and worse chary of it. :-/ I'm actually sorta happy these days and then this part of my brain is trying to spoil my mood. I must squash that part of my brain, the miserable rob, because nothing good EVER comes of it. It's just that the miserable side of my brain is so powerful grrrrrr.. I have a lot of laundry to do today and need a haircut.

Er, no. Lol, I totally forgot about that place. Is it still around? Besides, I can't really meet anyone, especially for sex. In some ways, I'd like to meet someone and it would probably be totally healthy and a good thing, but then on the other hand it would just be so complicated and I don't think I can allow myself to open up to anyone in that way emotionally. Im totally fine with myself as an A.S. these days anyway. Unless someone totally perfect comes along... I am open up to the right person, but I find most people just flat out gross, and the only people who would be into me are even grosser.

What do I have to explain?! Have I not been doing it for like the last 4 or 5 years!? Here's the thing... Most therapists are quacks and really dull and not really all that intelligent. I majored in psychology in college with the thinking that I wanted to become a therapist at some point. LOL x 500000. I eventually learned that it's not a good idea to get into peoples's brains and that anyone can understand and that no one can understand anyone.

I mean, get real... What could a therapist even tell me that I don't already know? (im SURE many things I don't want to hear, but it's not like I don't already know what those things are). I'd rather see a psychic, at least they can tell you things you DONT know, and they have about the same percentages of legit in the profession as psychologists and psychiatrists.

Buying a few tools online at Harbor Freight for CT Lake house.
25% off coupon good today only: 77512189

For those who dont know already: Harbor Freight has REALLY LOW prices. Some tools are great, others not so much. Most hand tools are excellent though.
I am also buying the corded oscillating multi-tool for $19. Cheap imitation of the Fein version (Very pricey), but for $19 gets the job done on the rare occassions I have a use for it.

He probably just makes what he needs to make, Pete. He owns the building, he might have some money stashed away throwing off a little income. Maybe he collects SS. It's a cash business, I bet for the most part. I doubt his monthly nut is all that high. Taxes on that building are likely very low. BH buys books from him often. My mom and John used to have a nice relationship, he'd order books for her. He still remembers her, when we speak. I love that. : )

An article for Pete on the front of today's Real Estate section. "What Pet Owners Must Do To Get New York Apartments". I wouldn't give up Salmonella for anything, but, ummm, I'd buy elsewhere before paying a non-refundable $50,000 fee to the co-op; some people just have too much money.

I am still mind-boggling about the mexican dude who help me bring in my chair yesterday. He refused the 20 bux I gave him and I forced him to take it. Not a single person on the street would help me carry it into my apartment until he came along. I wound up giving him 20 bux and he helped me take out my ginormous sony trinitron that I gave him (he called someone on his phone and was super excited about it).

I was really shocked that after he helped me carry that shit he kept refusing to take the 20 bux.

I go off on moonfaces all the time, duh... but yesterday was a clear example. Moonfaces just CANT BE ASKED to help people in need. Before the guy who came help me, I asked at least 5 people, and I swear to GOD one woman clutched onto her husband or bofo thinking I was gonna rape her or something :-/ it was so bizarre.

I guess my question is.. do people really not help each other in this city? I've always helped people moving in and out of places when I see them on the street and struggling. I feel like so many people won't even look you in the eyes these days; it's so obvious in elevators when everyone is staring into their phone. It sorta makes me sad. I serously miss elevator conversations. Perhaps I am totally old now :(

*rob*, my faith in moonfaces was restored a few months ago, when I nearly passed out on the 4/5 train during the evening rush hour commute. I was starting to lose consciousness, missed the Borough Hall stop, and I think the only thing that kept me from passing out was when four people rushed in to help me, and started talking to me, as the train approached Nevins Street. They notified the conductor, who radioed ahead for help. Since I ignored them when they told me not to stand up (I did NOT want to be that "sick passenger"), two of them helped me off the train, and one woman waited with me on the platform until I felt better, and then insisted on taking me up to the street, gave me her apple, bought me juice, and put me in a cab home. Moonfaces all.

Rob, do you help mothers carry their strollers down the subway steps? No one ever offered to help (or offered a seat on the train when I used a cane) in Park Slope. Lots of offers in the old Clinton Hill. Almost all offers from black and Latinos, lots of teenagers who looked like they might be out for a day or night of wilding. But they gave the old white lady a seat.

#76

ha. true. I have helped people many times up and down the stairs with their strollers as bizarre as that might sound. Yes, those moonfaces were totally capable of helping me but looked at me like I was an alien for asking them. I was totally upfront about it too, "hey can you help me carry this around the corner for 20 bux?" I guess they didnt need the 20 bux or something. I would LOVE for someone to ask me to help them move something around the corner for 20 bux!

When my kid was 2.5 years old, we went to visit my brother in St. Croix. We took one plane to Puerto Rico and a smaller plane from there to St. Croix. When we got past the desk in Puerto Rico, they opened a door and there was a staircase with 30 or 40 steps down. I had the car seat and the stroller and the kid and there was no way I could make it down the step with one trip. I stood there looking pathetic and finally I asked a guy who was there with his wife and 2 school-age kids. He carried the stroller with the car seat inside. He didn't like it--gave me the fish eye!--but he did it.

I hate that shit. Maybe it's phoney as hell to say hi to your neighbors, but at the same time when you make an effort to avoid all contact? I know it's NYC and all, but still...

I've been living in this building for almost 5 years and the turnaround rate is gross. There are some lovely people that me and them say hi to each other in the lobby that are still around, but that is fading fast.

That's a nice story, CGar. (Except the part about you losing consciousness). It's reassuring to know that everyone does not suck. Unfortunately, I think there is some truth in what rob is saying as well.

Since we are talking about faith in humanity today, here is a little story a friend of mine posted on FB yesterday about getting his haircut in DUMBO:

"Another visit to the Russian barber in Brooklyn, another story. Last time it was about being served Russian "cognac," this time a story to restore faith in humanity. While getting my haircut, a stranger walked in and said he wanted a haircut but had to run to the bank first. My barber gave him $100 in 20's and asked if he could do a favor and change it for small bills at the bank. The guy left with the money and the other barbers started making fun of my barber for being such a trusting fool. The guy actually came back with the small bills and the whole place, barbers and clients, burst into applause."

That is not logical at all.
Didn't you ever study Plato?
Or take math courses in logic?
Not to say that crotchfruit is a nice expression, though.
And not entirely logical either.
More accurate would be "Parent Fruit".
Crotches are just part of the manufacturing machinery.

I get it, U angry at my chair. :-/ Perhaps you are even jealous that I find a vintage vibrating chair? It was 450 bux. The most expensive thing I have ever bough (sadly on a credit card) but it if was the Fleabag market it would have been like 3,000 dollars and the person selling it would have had a pasty sad frowny face as if I was doing them a FAVOR buying it from them. My chair <3 donated money to a good cause. It didn't donate Fleabag money to people who rent ovepriced hovels in williamsburg.

I did a good thing.

dcb said: "Right now in our very own country, people are believing that massive gov't borrowing and spending will produce abundance and prosperity without any negative consequences."

I'm sure some people believe this, but the overwhelming majority of people do not. They believe that the borrowing and spending help keep things from being worse, that there are negative consequences to it, but that the benefits outway the disadvantages. One of the major reasons there is so much divisiveness is that each side overstates and distorts the position of the other side.

I know exactly what you mean. My stepfather was dying for 20 years - you name it, he had it (cancer twice, bypass, rebuilt verterbrae in his spine). So they sold their house and moved to a condo in anticipation of his death, so my mother wouldn't be in a big house all alone (and have to sell it and move alone), so she'd be settled when he died. And my Mom put off everything in her life and put everything on hold (trips to see her grandchildren, e.g.) to stay home and take care of him and worry about him every waking moment. And, PS, he outlived her by 3 years!

Happy Easter to those celebrating. Happy Passover to my Hebrew friends. Happy Sunday/Spring Solstice to the rest of you. We had to take one of Bxgrl's cats to the ER vet this morning. Turned out it was an ear infection, nothing superduper emergency, as we found out, but one of his ears has a huge hematoma, and looked awful. He got ear medicine drops. That should be fun. Absolutely everything is closed up here today, with the exception of the supermarket and fast food joints.

My brother emailed me yesterday, saying "Now I know why you didn't come down for Easter. How's MV and Karen? You could have told me, it would have been ok." I sent back "HUH?" Then he called me on my cell and wanted to know why I didn't tell him I was going to Martha's Vineyard this weekend. HUH? I told him I was here in Troy, and he didn't believe me for the longest time. Kept insisting I was on MV, a place I've never been, btw.

Turns out, his sister-in-law is one of those people who posts every cup of coffee she's had on Facebook, and she had eagerly entered from her phone, "Saw (Montrose Morris) friend Karen (last name) in MV. Karen is really a lovely person." My brother's sister-in-law and their family live on Martha's Vineyard, and so does my friend Karen, whom I have not seen, or have been in touch with since about 1977. We were in high school together. I don't know how Karen and she started talking, but it was one of those small world conversations, and she wrote about it on FB, from her phone, and left out a few words and punctuation, so it looked like I was there, and worse, had dissed my brother and his family to go to Martha's Vineyard. My brother felt bad that he had accused me of duplicity, and all is well. At least until he sees his sister-in-law.

Then he was rewarded by something he didn't expect, a huge-screen TV that he valued and probably couldn't afford. Something worth more to him than $20. Small favor, big reward. It is a good thing Dave is here to remind us of the significance of each Holy day. And to think he had been an Altar Boy! Something I had not known but maybe all of you did. He is now kind of like the Pope of the OT.

Talked to my grandmother a little while ago, the same cousin who sent me a giant care package sent her a giant care package too. Some people are just too nice. My grandmother's birthday is April 10th and I want to send her something nice...Obviously a card which I always do, but perhaps something in the mail, like a delivery... 1800 flowers still around? I got Shari's Berries frozen chocolate strawberries from manda and her mom when duke died and Im thinking about sending those. Please don't think this totally bizarre, but I'm thinking of sending a male stripper to her housing complex lol. SHe did it for my uncle back in the day (a stripper dressed in a gorilla outfit) that I had to answer the door and then see her have to watch undress. guh-ROSS. Payback's a bitch, grandma!

I had to log in just to tell you guys about my brunch experience today (DH and Partridge would be interested).....

So we needed to stop by IKEA to pick up some stuff so figured we'd have brunch in Red Hook. Go to Fairway and it's a shitshow and the new layout is nice but their hot food bar is dismal so we leave and figure let's go to Brooklyn Crab since they have a HUGE sign outside saying they are serving brunch. It's around 1:30pm and most places I go to brunch usually close up brunch at around 3pm. Well.....firstly we are told that brunch is over so it's lunch. fine. then I order a crab sandwich with chips and ask if they can substitute chips for fries and I'll pay more to which I am told that the chef with absolutely not take in any substitutions to which I say fine, I'll just get an order of fries on the side. whatev. THEN they come back to us and say since it was so busy on Friday, they have no more crab left for today....The place is called BROOKLYN CRAB and they have no CRAB!!! Plus the dude(s) serving us were super snobby. This reminded me of our Roberta's experience. First time in my life I walked out of the restaurant before eating. Will never go back.

Donatella, he was very fatigued so I took him to an urgent-care clinic which did an EKG and found an arrhythmia.

Hopefully he will be out by Tuesday but we'll see. Never a dull moment. Yesterday was awful because we were in the ER for hours and I couldn't get a signal on my cell phone and worried (a lot!) about getting someone to stay with my stepmother over Easter. If I had to I would have pulled a benson and stayed with her but I really didn't want to. But once I got up the hill where I could call and wait for a callback, the agency arranged for 24-hour coverage, 12 hours with someone they know and like. Today he was kind of cranky but still sleepy. His regular gerontologist will see him tomorrow and I'll talk to him. Also had to go to their house and buy some food. Another long, long day on the road.

Yes, the hairspray or rubbing alcohol advice was about removing ink from wood (nh). Hairspray was a very good remedy to the-kid-got-hold-of-a-ballpoint-pen problem, really the only remedy that worked. But someone once told me that it's the alcohol in the hairspray that does the job.

Rob, there used to be a little pharmacy on the corner of Garfield and Fifth Ave. (your side), back when the TDBank site was a gas station and then a parking lot and the restaurant on that corner was a laundromat. Next to it was a little pharmacy that had great prescription prices. And next to that was a pork store.

Cobble, most target funds have performed very poorly.
You probably want to split your money into 2 or 3 non overlapping index funds.
Such as an S&P 500 fund, an emerging market fund, and maybe a European or small cap fund.
The problem for me with giving this advice is that I think that we are headed towards a period of extreme economic disruption and I have no idea when it will start. There really should be no such thing as buy and hold in this enviorment.

How's your nose zit? Seriously tho.. I shan't let myself "go" because I have four fish to take of and I want to make sure they grow up right.

Hey randi, here's a real finger for ya!

Younger white people with more money than me. They are also ugly and often inbred looking. I.e. see beardos and canklesaurus rexes.

" There really should be no such thing as buy and hold in this enviorment."

I disagree. When was the last time a bear market lasted even a year...Maybe after the tech bubble. First, we aren't in any sort of a bubble. The biggest economic slowdown and period of financial turmoil in 70 years was characterized by a market that went down fast and started back up fast...all in less than 12 months.

People who tried to time that lost out badly and many never even got back in.

Retirement money should be ledft fully invested.

DCB, I don't remember the exact number, but my daughter's 529 was up around 10 percent this year. It is through the NYS Vanguard option, a mix of index funds of various kinds. They adjust the risk according to how old the kid is as well as how risk-averse the investor is.

Jimmy Fallon and his sidekick Steve (fka Steph) Higgins just did a remake of "Who's On First?" to mark its 75th Anniversary, joined by Jerry Seinfeld and Billy Crystal.

I went to acting school with Steve Higgins. Cue dave and DeLepp in 3-2-1 . . .

Yeah, Denise Richards on a bad hair day. Probably the day when she realized how wacko Charlie Sheen really was.

Defitely be grateful for the hair. Mine's thinning at an ever increasing rate, I'm guessing only 3 more years until I go full tonsure. I refuse to do combovers...
