I think the beardo look was after 3 weeks in the jungle. He's also a lot skinnier than in the left photo.

I don't know if I should post here or on the other weekend OT, but anyway....Thanks for the BOTD tips, CGar, I'll take pix when I'm in town.

I like those galvanized bins you posted photos of. Where did they come from? I'm always looking for attractive, yet indestructible kitty-defeating storage.

I really like the galvanized shelves too.

LOL..sometimes I don'tremember which house I'm at. I can remember a few times many years ago waking up and 1. not even remembering I brought someone home or 2. not remembering what he looked like as I woke. But that was in my promiscuous years.

You're welcome, MM. They're interesting, though far from the nicest houses around. But, I figure there must be stories there given that they are so different from every other house in Cobble Hill. Anyway, they're literally 2 blocks from me, so very convenient for you to take pics when you're staying here.

Beside the horrible front of house with unbalanced windows ----- could you have at least managed to put in central air
instead of thru wall a/c sleeves at this price point?

Enjoy the rest of your weekend (Pete, enjoy the rest of your Tuesday).

Juan's new roommate is a 30/40ish terminal cancer patient from what I overheard. So sad. I remember him from one of our early stays in ICU. He had 9 visitors last night which made the room soooooooooooo warm (not to mention the overflow onto our side). They blast Russian music (only stating type of music to point out that we don't know the songs) and sing along. I have such a hard time to begin with hearing Juan speak in his whisper, it was impossible to talk with him last night. The nurse asked me if they were bothering me, I said, no, of course not. I hope this is not the norm, but I understand completely.

OK, later gators.

Why on earth would they close on Saturdays? Are they owned by 7th-day Adventists? There was a place on Ft Hamilton Pkwy, the Oak and the Iris, that was originally closed on Saturdays for that reason...then the owners decided to stay open and donate all the Saturday profits to charity. It shut down last year I think and Hamilton's took over the space.

Save me from wasting money and going to a psychic. I told my grandmother that I would come down to South Carolina at end of march cuz she told me that my sister and her bofo have tickets to go down there. Okay, now I don't really want to, and would prefer to go in like may or june. I do have the lovely excuse of saying I cant go down until I get my tax refund, but in a sense that would be a lie. I also told her I would just put the ticket for me on my credit card.

Should I just go down in the end of march and get it over with? the concept of "getting it over with" is bugging me out. I am terrified of my grandmother, and honestly, I kinda sorta am terrified of my sister.

Best option is to do it NOW versus later? At least if I go down there with my sister and her boyfriend I will have have some psychological barriers, aka, attention off of me. I was scared as balls the last time I was down there. I don't want to regret not going down there or holding it off and delaying it.

Should I take the train or should I just fly down there? I kinda wanna take the train again, but I won't post and be a bitch like I did the last time. (I was awful). truly truly an awful person.

Your landlord is hassid? Ours is Greek. He is a total A-hole. He won't even say hi in the hallway. Him and his family live in like entire second or third floor or something. He's used to give me the stink eye when he'd see me Duke, and I give him the stink eye when I see him with his fugly children and butt ugg wife. Shit goes both ways.

Yeah, the landlord is a hassid family/company that owns like 4 of the new construction buildings on my block. they were mad shady and created a "fake" real estate broker and charge everyone one month broker fees when they move in - although I've checked streeteasy and talked to neighbors and they never raise the rent.

I've heard horror stories about hassid landlords from friends in WB, but these guys are all ok. The super is a hispanic dude born and raised in the hood that's pretty nice ---- this building is a failed condo that lost financing during the bust so it's more than evident they cut corners to finish quickly and turn rental - but overall it's ok.

Most of my landlords have been Polish. The dude I had when I lived on Frost St was amazing. That was back when I had three regular ladyfriends and he'd always blow up my spot. "OH DH IS THIS YOUR OTHER GIRLFRIEND?!?!" (in a very borat sounding voice) - he would also roll around in the summer with no shirt on and a cowboy hat and aviator sunglasses.

I <3 my super here, he is russian. I dont think we had one in harlem or Chelsea. ON the LES we had Pat who would sit outside all day and night and bum cigs and i'd go on beer runs for him. He rocked. He was mad skid row though. 168 Ludlow. I think they turned it into luxury apartments. It was a grilled cheese place when I lived there and also mega weed factory. Then it turned into a sushi joint which closed down, no clue what it is now.

I am no fan of Hassids. They look out for themselves, no one else. Hmmm, sounds like some PLUSAs! But really, it's a very inward-looking community. But there are differences in inward-lookingness. Lubavichers try to rope in more secular Jews. Satmars, not so much.

No need to be mean. Trust me tho, when summer gets here I will turn into a total urban beach bum again. When I got back from California, I went to the beach every saturday and sunday right up until stupid Sandy hit!

I actually have beach dreams. I can't wait to get a tan again and not look so gross pale. Skin cancer, be damned!

once a satmar woman hissed at me when i was walking around south of broadway in WB after brunch one day.

I know two families that looked into sharing. I think they found that the most practical way was to condo it but it was very expensive. (They didn't wind up doing it.)

Hi Pete.

Totally, Six. I do most stuff in all cash, but I like paying bills online because I never miss payments anymore. I haven't missed a student loan payment in like over a year. Same with all other bills, it's kinda great.

I do pay rent and utulities/cable/internet in cash tho.

February 24, 2013 11:57 PM - pepper
I've never been to either the Flea or the Smorgasburg... Neither is really appealing to me, though I should go at least once to check them out. But yes, the author of that story definitely has an obnoxious take on the whole thing...
February 25, 2013 12:05 AM - ilovestoops
I went to the Flea 2-3 times a year for the first couple of years, but there were just too few true "flea mkt" things there so I gave up. Never been to Smorgasburg or gotten any food at the Flea. I didn't think the reporter was obnoxious, but the reportees were. Thought the reporter's take was sort of funny.
February 25, 2013 12:12 AM - pepper
I guess I found the first sentence obnoxious

"If helping to secure supplies of blood orange-infused donuts and 1960s manual typewriters can be called “doing God’s work,” as Goldman Sachs (GS) Chief Executive Officer Lloyd Blankfein once described his calling, then the firm is on the side of the angels in Brooklyn. "

But sarcastic works too - sometimes the line between the two blurs....
