Partridge, I'm going to be in hybernation mode, sports-wise. My Mets are doing their usual 2nd half of season tanking, too early to get excited about Football, basketball & hockey start date too far away, and I can't really get juiced up for Olympics where they award losers - ie 2nd & 3rd place in any other sports events gets you nothing (ie winner takes all).

GM. There was a show on tv yesterday, don't know the title and I missed all but this part: the main character is a bartender. His girlfriend bought a $1.00 cup of coffee near his establishment. She threw it on the ground saying she only wanted coffee that cost $4.00. She told the bartender (essentially) that he was not good enough for her because he wasn't the $4.00 cup of coffee type. She left.

(reminds me of rob's posts about $4.00 coffee)

What's happening with MJ's will?
#50
July 20, 2012 10:30 AM - Slopefarm
Daily News had report that five Jackson siblings have accused MJ
's lawyers of forging MJ's signature. It's the same story as at the time he died, where they said he was in NYC the day he signed the will in LA. They claim more proof that MJ was in NY that day. MJ's lawyers and executors (and mom) say they are raising this now because the estate has done such a good job bringing money in.
#51
July 20, 2012 10:30 AM - Slopefarm
m4l -- none of that talk matters. What matters is whether reports that Felton's lost way more than 20 pounds are true.

July 20, 2012 10:30 AM - InsertSnappyNameHere
Oh dear.
#53
July 20, 2012 10:34 AM - Slopefarm
Not sure what the new proof is, but Randy Jackson had previously said the will was good and that MJ was in LA the day of the signature. He's switched sides and joined Tito, Marlon, Janet and another sibling in signing the letter accusing the lawyers of forgery.

As an aside, my house litigation involved accusations that a lawyer forged a deed (actually, it was a related case, not ours, but we were seeking to consolidate the two as they both concerned title). I did not make the accusation and my lawyer was not the one accused, but I did consult with handwriting experts. An interesting bunch of characters.

July 20, 2012 10:43 AM - Slopefarm
m4l, I would settle for 90s knicks or pacers -- a decade of reaching at least the conference finals almost every year. I want to see a team built to challenge year in year out for a decade with management smart enough to make the lineup tweaks to keep it going. Enough quirks that a team like that sometimes wins it. I prefer that to, say, the Jason Kidd Nets, emerging from nowhere to reach finals twice then fading just as quickly to oblivion.

Eva -- that is one side of the story, and i would assume the correct one until we see more definitive proof from the siblings. But it was a creepy and insular world around MJ, so anything's possible. I mean, look at the doctor, as one example.
#58
July 20, 2012 10:45 AM - Partridge
I don't get why the siblings are objecting to MJ's mother and 3 children as heirs. As they would likely inherit their mother's portion, could they be so greedy to think his children don't deserve his money? They all have there own careers and should have a few bucks themselves.

Very true, Eva. I did T&E law years ago and shit got ugly. Often. People who hated their dead relative and never bothered to even call or visit them (even when they lived close by) challenged wills and fought tooth and nail to get a piece of estates. Money makes people do disgusting things.

Not only that, but don't keep changing your will every time you get mad at somebody. Had a guy who used to come in at least once a month to change his depending on who pissed him off and who kissed his ass. The last thing you need is for there to be a ton or prior wills floating around out there and a claim that you were off your rocker.

The only rich people around the Jacksons seem to be their plastic surgeons.

Jacksons - you are a black family from Detroit. We've seen you grow up, and know what you looked like when you had African-American noses and hair. You're not fooling anyone, and the "Jackson nose" looks ridiculous on all of you. Keep that money in the bank where it should be, so when you can't get out there and sing "Got to be there" anymore without massive heart attacks, you'll have something besides Social Security to help you along. Sheesh.

My MIL, who was wonderful, did that with executor of her will. And, she would tell everyone every time. It ended up being my husband. He was grief-stricken and watched the sibs and in-laws carry everything out of the house. Me, my husband, and one of my steps sat at the kitchen table one night while three others carried everything out. There was nothing of value, so we just watched. The will said my SIL will divide everything. Yeah Right!!!!!!

Oh, and do a will even if you have no spouse or kids. Otherwise, your estate will just sit there for years while a court figrues out what to do and lots of it will just go to the state. Pick some charities, leave some to relatives, pick an executor, etc. Let something useful be done with whatever you leave behind.

I had a lengthy discussion with someone at the farm market trying to sell me wind power. I asked how I could choose which source my power comes from, since it comes from whatever is feeding the grid. It took about 10 minutes for him to really understand my question. He said if lots of people contract for wind power, it ups Con Ed's demand from wind suppliers, lowering demand for other sources. I asked where the wind power goes if i don't buy it -- i.e., doesn't it feed the grid anyway? he said less of it does, and goes to charging lithium batteries instead, which he says is a less efficient use. Still not sure it makes sense. Love to have someone put a few big solar panels on my roof and they can sell whatever I don't use.

Hi, Bxgrl. How's things going?
July 20, 2012 12:20 PM - Cobble B. Hiller
ROFL, bxgrl! How's it goingup there?!
July 20, 2012 12:22 PM - bxgrl
Hi Eva- it's been a real roller coaster ride. I love the house, have a great neighbor, but very lonely and missing NYC. And had very bad news about a good friend and mentor who discovered he has stage 4 lung cancer this week. Totally unexpected and devastating.
July 20, 2012 12:23 PM - bxgrl
Hey cobble- I have paintbrushes calling your name :)

Thanks, Eva- he's a really bighearted person. Done a lot of good things for the Police and Fire Depts. He starts chemo next week but all we can do is hope it buys him some more time.

How did this nut, carryiing two rifles, handguns, a grenade, and a gas mask, get into the theatre in CO in the middle of the summer?
Edited at July 20, 2012 12:44 PM
July 20, 2012 12:46 PM - More4Less
4Eva, that can easily fit into a gym back, back pack (if rifles sawed off). the more amazing thing is he could've done a ton more damage than the already heavy toll he rendered.

Don't they check bags? You can't sneak in a box of raisinettes into the theatre, but you can bring a duffle bag or whatever in? I wore a pair of jeans and tee-shirt to Citifield and was patted down.
July 20, 2012 12:51 PM - MontroseMorris
I hate those totally random acts of mass destruction and death. I don't care what anyone says, guns get in the hands of unstable people far too often. There has got to be a better kind of system of checks and balances.
July 20, 2012 12:54 PM - More4Less
4Eva, citifield security probably found you very hot hence the pad down.

MM, if Lech was here, he would counter if all peeps are armed, someone would've shot that dude before all this damage

Trout, very nice! You do seem to whip up some nice meals up there. So nice to be able to grill.

We'll be having pasta with pesto (I made a big batch the other day), steamed zucchini/broccoli, and some sweet italian sausage.

And wine, of course, in fact, I'm having some right now...before I 'brave' the kitchen.

This is what Mayor Bloomberg said about the killings in CO:

"You know, soothing words are nice, but maybe it’s time that the two people who want to be President of the United States stand up and tell us what they are going to do about it, because this is obviously a problem across the country," Bloomberg said, referencing early morning statements from both Obama and Romney, during his weekly appearance on WORS radio.

He continued:

And everybody always says, ‘Isn’t it tragic,’ and you know, we look for was the guy, as you said, maybe trying to recreate Batman. I mean, there are so many murders with guns every day, it’s just got to stop. And instead of the two people – President Obama and Governor Romney – talking in broad things about they want to make the world a better place, okay, tell us how. And this is a real problem. No matter where you stand on the Second Amendment, no matter where you stand on guns, we have a right to hear from both of them concretely, not just in generalities – specifically what are they going to do about guns? I can tell you what we do here in New York. The State Legislature passed the toughest gun laws – some states may say no. That’s okay, what do you want to do? And maybe every Governor should stand up. But in the end, it is really the leadership at a national level, which is whoever is going to be President of the United States starting next January 1st – what are they going to do about guns?

Pretty good. His oncologist says he's strong enough to take out the remaining nodules in his lungs, and that's the tentative plan for 7/31.
