Scientists at the US Air Force research laboratory, the US National Solar Observatory and NASA are all now talking about the sunspot cycle "going into hibernation" and causing a "mini" or "Little Ice Age."

OK...I HAVE A TEST FOR EVERYONE.

Psychopath Test

Read this question, come up with an answer and. This is not a trick question It is as it reads. No one I know has got it right.

A woman, while at the funeral of her own mother, met a guy whom she did Not know. She thought this guy was amazing. She believed him to be her dream guy so much, that she fell in love with him right there, but never asked for his number and could not find him. A few days later she killed her sister.

Question: What is her motive for killing her sister?

The actual answer will be revealed later.

i remember all the communications majors in college. they were all 5 & 6's who were only in college to find a man. (seriously). and they almost all wound up married with kids in second ring suburbs and today play farmville on facebook like it's their careeer.

Neither one is correct. You are NOT a psychopath. Being a communications major did not give you adequate preparation in critical thinking, or a desperate personality such that you would devolve into a psychopath, unlike most communications majors.

Answer:

She was hoping the guy would appear at the funeral again. If you answered this correctly, you think like a psychopath. This was a test by a famous American Psychologist used to test if one has the same mentality as a killer. Many arrested serial killers took part in the test and answered the question correctly..

I've been up since just before 8, puttering. I've made the bed, put away the clean dishes, sorted some papers, collected the checks that need to be deposited in the bank today, made a list of groceries I need for the dinner I'm cooking later, layed out my clothes, drank coffee, watched "In the Papers" and wondered what the meaning of life is.

Is there any reason we do all this crap every day? Does it even matter? What if I ever got out of bed again, would that really matter in any real sense? Why do we go through all these anxieties, stresses, make these efforts? Why do we struggle to attain things? Is there a point to it all?

In other words, I'm having my 22,854th existential crisis this morning.

I have studied the bus map. There is the Cortelyou bus which while a bit circuitous, crosses paths with the Bergen St. bus. So that will help me get to Cobble Hill/Boerum Hill, as needed. But what a PAIN!

November 11, 2011 10:38 AM - sixyearsandcounting
It's not that bad, since the Q stops at Newkirk, so I'll just walk there. Normally I wouldn't care at all on the weekend, plenty to do around here! Although this weekend had to be the weekend with two friends hosting parties (potluck in Williamsburg, and bday party in the city).

no lol you cant teach an old dog new tricks, even the tricks they were talked out of.. funny cuz im reading a book right now called White Dog about a racist german shephard in the late 60's. im not exactly sure WHERE the direction of this book is going as im only like 30 pages in and i refuse to google it cuz sometimes you wind up finding spoilers. from what i gather the owner wants to make the dog not racist (it was a dog trained by the police in the late 60s to only attack black men), but the narrator of the book plathers on and on and on and on. he's also from france originally and has very biting things to say about americans of the time. it's quite interesting. now if only duke was young enought that i could train him to bark at moonfaces only, that would be AMAZING. either by the end of this book ill know if it's possible or not with an old dog. the dog in the book is like an 8 year old german shephard which is old for their age. duke is 11 which is just as old for his breed. he's become such a pussy tho i might as well have a cat! when duke goes to purgatory im SO not getting another dog for a long long long time, if ever. i must say however, that there have been numerous instances in the last 8 years where has literally saved my life (via circumstances) that im grateful for. if he's not TOTALLY grody when he dies, im definitely getting him stuffed.

yeah i think im going to take the cellophanes off and cut out the state stamps that are on the bottom of the cellophanes of the box to make some nice architectural details on the building. the boxes are green and the stamps are pink.. my two fav. colors. so i think it will look nice. i with they werent ALL newport 100's boxes tho, i wish i had a few regular newport boxes (im sure i do, but not enough) to make some floors smaller than the others. ooooh im really excited about this. i havent made art in quite some time, and this is just the kind of moonfacey lameness i need right now.

and she was a huge fan of american idol and would call me ALL the time when it was on to talk about it and i would be like i do NOT watch that stupid show, but she would still go on and on about it. this was her in her late 60s and early 70s plathering on about wannabe pop stars. i dont think that show is on anymore tho (is it?) my friend crazy told me that my grandmother is probably a lesbo with a crush on paula or something and normally youd punch someone in the face for saying something like that, but i laughed instead. i dont think she's a closeted lesbo, i just think she has a very skewed view of pop music. my grandfather used to listen to country and she used to call it hickish (and something worse that i wont repeat here). but yeah she hated older-ish female singers, but she loved shit back in the day like Boyz to Men (seriously). the best was that she LOVED 4 non blondes. she thought the main singer (linda perry) was a GUY! hahahahah

You hit the nail on the head, *rob*. Paula Abdul was never a "slutty" star. She wore sexy clothes, but her act was sort of sweet (which women like) and also Paul Abdul had a horrible car accident and she struggled hard to get herself back in one piece so she was human (which your grandmother probably liked). On the other hand, Madonna has always had the persona of a person who was tough as nails, steely, and who was crass/crude/slutty. Some people obviously thought she was great. I could never stand her either. I always thought that Cher was sort of absurd with her outfits, but I never disliked her.

remember Madonna's sex book? it was giant and coffee table-like and had a metal cover? at the time, my uncle's girlfriend lent it to me. i was popular for quite some time cuz of that book!!!! it was actually totally gross from what a remember. there was a photo of a dog actually licking her twat :-/ wtf? i think there was a picture of that anyway. and lots of guys who had oil all over their bodies. it was kinda gross, but you found porn where you could find porn back in the day. kids these days, fucking lucky. you can just go on the internet and get all the porn you need for free and without even having to register. i remember back in the day when BBS's were popular they would have archives of low res porn movies and pics and you would have to send the SysOp a copy of your license to have access? lol @ me trying to steal my grandmother license at the time. thank god i wasnt able to. that would have been awful. my grandmother used to put her pocketbook that contained her money, car keys, etc, under her pillow at night so her son wouldnt steal it. ugh, i hate how i grew up, but looking back i dont think i would have changed a thing.

i thought being the first person in my family to get a college degree would make me different (lol). the only thing it's done is made me slightly smarter in subjects most people dont give a shit about and being more in debt than i should be.

TOD ABRAMS’S condo at the Orion on West 42nd Street has a custom Valcucine kitchen, floor-to-ceiling windows and views that stretch from the George Washington Bridge to the Chrysler Building.

A mint-condition two-bedroom, described by the broker as having “a New York meets Los Angeles meets South Beach flavor,” it is also in a race against time. It has been on the market since March, and Mr. Abrams, who has relocated to Los Angeles to be closer to his son and for work, has already slashed the price three times, to $1.575 million. He is hoping to sell the apartment in part because his monthly real estate taxes are poised to surge by more than 400 percent over the next several years.

That jump is mainly due to the city’s 421a tax exemption program, which encouraged development of underused or unused land by drastically reducing property taxes for a set amount of time. Buyers got what seemed to be an unbelievable deal on taxes — but with the caveat that it was only temporary and that someday, their rates would rise to what everyone else was paying.

When Mr. Abrams bought the brand-new apartment in 2007, his taxes were just $35 a month; he now pays $374 a month. When the exemption runs its course, in 2018, the monthly tax bill will be an estimated $1,629.

rf:! dont get me started on the whole 421ba tax abatement. that shit is only a perk given for yupppies to move to a neighborhood where they dont pay taxes, then they move out and dont put their kids in the neighborhood schools. barf. not that these moonface parents' kids are what IS needed for any schools, but when schools embrace more of a diversity that is real, i think it works. be honest: most people dont want to put their kid in school where they are the minority < 10%. whether black white hispanic asian or space alien. granted, that shit shouldnt matter, but it does to a lot of people. how do you balance "diversity" with good schooling? well, DUH... it's a little something called parenting. every day when i walk outside to go to work i see people from all ethnicities walking their kids to school, (it's mostly black and white tho), but still...

imagine being in a school, in the year 2011, where you feel people dont want their kids around us... i'd imagine this self awareness would come about around 4-5th grade...

you get to 6-8th grade. then what? wow you realize that all those rich people you live around REALLY didnt want their kids around with you. ok.

opinions formed.

rest my case.

i went to a predominately hispanic high school and LOVED it. best education ever. but then again, that was Jersey where education was important and people werent as racist and weirdo as they are in NYC.

There's a lot of people moving into NYC these days with racist attitudes, nothing to contribute except cheese curls from their home states, and chips on their shoudars. while it's easy for me to ignore them, how is for people with who choose to stay in the city easy to ignore them?

that's why i rent in the uber-already-gentrified-areas. get outta my face!

“The delivery of the 19 top-of-the-range executive cars has raised eyebrows at a time when the country is meant to be shaving billions off its public spending.

Opposition MPs said it was it was an outrageous indulgence at a time when the defence ministry is supposed to be reducing its budget by €2.5bn (£2.2bn) over the next three years.

The matter was raised in parliament by Emanuele Fiano, an MP from the opposition Democratic Party. "At a time when millions of Italians are being affected by a very serious economic crisis, is there good reason for the defence minister to feel it necessary to add 19 armoured Maseratis to the ministry's car park?" he said.

Ignazio La Russa, the defence minister, dismissed the row as a "witch hunt" by the opposition....... "What's the problem? Maseratis are Italian and they cost less than their German equivalents," he said”. .

haha,
funny story.

In my neighborhood, like most I'm sure, there is a community of dog owners.
We all sort of know each other from walking dogs in the morning or the evening and picking up dog poop in a ritualistic manner.

Well there's this one dude who is known as the "crazy skate-boarding dog guy".
For years he's been riding up and down the boulevard here with his big Brindle pit-bull running along side him while he's jumping up and down on one of those super-sized skateboards.

He always seemed to be on speed or something and singing to himself as he passed by everyone at speeds approaching Evil Kneivel's rocket car attempting to jump the Grand Canyon. He always seemed fit, like he could run miles and miles with his dog keeping up a brisk pace by his side.
Until recently.

Nobody knows his name.

He wears these bright green outfits and has been known to wear a straight out garbage bag in the rain.

Anyway, he's been funny to watch over the past several years cause it's like a comedic counterpoint to the middle of a quiet walk when some guy passes you by singing with headphones on and being pulled by a large dog into the distance while performing wild gyrations.

Recently, though this guy has suddenly appeared to have gained about 89 pounds!
It started last summer when his routine hooping and hollerin' was dulled by the fact that he was now wearing a neck brace and an arm cast.

I figured he must have run into a car or something. It looked bad, but he continued his wild riding.

I felt bad for the dog this summer because the dog is getting older and this guy makes the dog run for
miles in the heat. Not to mention the guy wears these day glow outfits.

So the other day, I had to laugh out loud as he passed by jogging looking decidedly fat.
I can't recall somebody changing their body type in such a short period. I thought it was some sort of joke, like he was wearing a fat suit or something, but no, the crazy skate boarding dog guy must have hit some kind of middle aged male wall 10 years early, hastened by the injury he had last year.

I reckon his story can be seen as a commentary on life.
We start out all crazy enthusiastic, loving the wild ride,
then shit happens and you end up panting and fat in day glo jogging pants not knowing what the hell happened.

Legion, physical trauma shortens your life. Young people think they are immortal and so they ride skateboards in traffic. And ride bikes on Atlantic Avenue. You have to hope people wise up at a certain point. I know that is a dull, cane-wagging, cranky attitude. I am going to put that on my list of topics for my Andy Rooney job - job interview.

I read some crazy article that was flagged by Yahoo or some news service....maybe on Drudge. It was written by an internist telling people how to extend their lives. It had say 10 points -- the usual, like eat your vegetables, reduce stress, try to be happy, don't hold grudges, exercise....it had another interesting piece of advice: Try at all costs to avoid physical trauma, which can have a lasting impact on your health. Also head injuries/concussions greatly increase the propability of dementia. That is why you have so many football players who go ga-ga in their 50s.

Advertise on ebay or something for the following:

Authentic NYC carepackage.

$20 plus shipping and handling.

That's why the tourists are always swarming around Canal Street.
You get your payment on PayPal and then stuff a box with 99cent wool hats and stuff that says NY on it, like a used MTA card or a subway map. Send it to the address requested and you make a profit of like 10-15 per order.

Laundry is a PITA. I didn't do our laundry for almost two weeks, so I dropped it off. They clearly left it in the dryer or a lump, instead of folding it quickly and everything was all wrinkled. Not to mention that it was folded so badly that I had to refold everything. Never again.
November 11, 2011 5:04 PM - rf
They don't do that in the laundromat I use, Cobble. They do a really beautiful job. I would complain if I were you.
November 11, 2011 5:11 PM - Cobble B. Hiller
I was super pissed, rf. I just won't use them again. If they can't be bothered to try to do a good job for a new client, then WTF are they going to do if I drop off once in awhile? I'll just make sure to do it myself here in the laundry room. My old place never effed up my laundry. I called him and told him to open a shop out here.

I feel so alien here. Everything I try to do seems more difficult. There isn't even a branch of my bank nearby. CH really was my home. I'm not sure I'll ever adjust to being here. I can't even find soft white light bulbs, only those basic clear ones. Am I asking too much? And the produce is not so hot. The best place seems to be a market that the caribbean ladies shop in on Church Av. Even the produce at the Food Coop seems old sometimes. And forget the MET Food, the brocolli I bought was soft, and my bananas turned almost overnight.

Maybe Fresh Direct, but it really is a bit more expensive and I need to save money where I can. I was hoping I could just shop here!!

Went to the Veteran's Day parade today. Is there anything more American than a high school marching band? I saw about 8 HS marching bands, most from the midwest. One from Minnesota must have had 200 kids in it - I wonder how big the high school is? It's great to see the looks on their face - a combination of awe -marching down Fifth Ave! - combined with fear that they are going to blow their piece. I imagine it must be the trip of their young lives, to come to NYC and march in a big parade.

The West Point marching band had them all beat, of course. Precision steps, tight formation, and spiffy uniforms.

Cobble;

You might want to consider taking the Brighton line down to Kings Highway. It's not that far, and they have lots of great shopping there. From East 17th to Ocean Ave., there are a lot of food shops.

Thanks, benson, I'll check it out. It appears, wonder of wonders, that there is a branch of my bank there, too!

WELCOME TO THE GHETTO!!!!!!!!

And yes, I will be going to Los Paisanos tomorrow as well for my meat!!!!

Do you guys that do laundry in the laundromat actually stay there while it's washing/drying or do you go home and wait?

Chiller - you'll adjust. If u get bummed just think about the shitholes you'd be living in if you had decided to stay in cobble hill. Ditmas park is pretty and has better amenities than most neighborhoods. You could be in a lot worse shape right now!

Laundramats should be attached to bars. There were a few in Chicago like that

Dibs - the laundromat I go to in wb is near several bars. I used to try I do my own laundry and wait in a bar but I would end up wasted with an unfolded wad of wrinkled clothes in the morning. I just do drop off now. It's cheaper in the long run

May I give you some advice? Stick to your day job here in the OT - socio-political analysis. Your post last night kinda scared me.

My first apartment after college had washer and dryer hookups, but we were responsible for providing the actual appliances.
After about 2 weeks, I convinced myself if I charged a washer and dryer on my credit card, the interest payments would be less than I was spending at the laundromat.

Ever since then I have had a washer and dryer in my apartment/house.

i went 5 months living in harlem washing my socks and undies in the sink cuz there was a freakshow going on in the "laundry room". it was a giant laundry room that was supposed to be for people who lived in the building, but in reality it was a bunch of gangbanger mommy's who wouldnt let you to do your own clothes, you had to drop them off. fuck that. and these women washing clothes were like OLD. like 60-80 years old. get the fuck outta my face. i had to move out. if i attempted to put my laundry in i probably would have gotten shot in the face by their grandchildren in the building.

I live a block and a half from the laundromat. I usually stay and read the OT on my Android phone :). Sometimes I run back and forth. Once I get the stuff out of the washer and in the dryer, I put lightweight stuff in one dryer and a lot of it is dry in 16 minutes (2 quarters) so I start folding. A week's worth of laundry for me and my kid about 90 minutes door to door.

I have contemplated doing a mani-pedi at a place right across the street from the laundromat while my stuff is in the wash, but I know I'd ruin my fingernails immediately shoveling the wash out of the machine. And it's getting too cold to walk home in flipflops. There's also an internet place across the street and I've done that for 20 mins worth during the wash cycle.

Yes, DIBS, Paisano's — making giant pot of pork chili right now. To be followed by Beef Bourguinon and a Shepard's Pie. I see now why people talked about schlepping to PS for stuff.

No, YOU (and others here) 'associate' me with 'those types' because I lived in the Cobble Hill of now, of 3-4 million dollar homes. It was not always such. Your 'image' of who I am is not me. What you forget is...I grew up there and I have always lived there since 1967 (aside from a few years out west). I have family and life-long friends there now. I had a life there. I still have a life there, that I now have to 'commute' to.
