Maybe an open house pick, to publicize it and increase traffic?

what made you want to sell your house so abruptly? i mean i know youve mentioned it in the past, but i thought you were planning on staying a few years for some reason. i just woke up, it's 1130. i feel like a bum

GM. It's a pretty day, sun in and out. I actually walked up to the flea and didn't feel as snarky as usual. There was actually some good stuff there. Going back soon since the vendor of interest was still unpacking when I was there.

Have things settled down in Bucks, dibs? I imagine if you can get the attention of the right brokers for co-broking, you can get your house sold pretty fast. I wonder if Jerry Minsky could get involved for 1/2 price commissions. I was amazed that he managed to sell that house for 1.3 million a while back.

dona, turns out i dont have to go into work today. the reason i was supposed to go in today was to be there cuz they were replacing an ac unit and they originally wanted to do it on saturday, but they called yesterday and asked if they could do it yesterday instead because they thought it was going to be a nightmarfe today getting around lower manhattan today which it will be. it was bad yesterday too, but they got it done so no coming in today.

Good *rob*. I hope you have a good day today and find that book you were reading a while back on JOY. I was thinking I might need that book. It sounded like it had a lot of good stuff to drive away bad moods. -

The vendor of interest was selling everything that a woman had in storage. This woman is now living in Kenya but spent her life traveling in Asia and had all kinds of dishes/ buddhist stuff. When I went back and they had unpacked it, I was amazed. It was all the lowest quality junk, like the stuff you would buy from street vendors selling to tourists. Junky dishes, cheap knick nacks. And supposedly she had it all in storage for 900 bucks a month for 5 years! So that is $54,000 dollars to store beat up furniture, household goods and tourist junk. Not one item worth buying. Well, maybe a Buddha head but they wanted too much money.

Wow. What a giant waste of money.

lol donna, sounds like typical brooklyn flea junk. i did get an amazing big velvet painting the one time i went to the flea. annoying tho, the woman would NOT haggle. i was like but there is a tear in this painting and it will need to be repaired and she was like well the price reflects that. :-/ so i left then wound up coming back and bought it anyway cuz i really like it. everything else at the flea was overpriced shit you could find left out on stoops and in the streets and at salvation armies, which is probably where most of this stuff comes from anyway. these people spend all week pilfering all the good stuff from used clothing stores and stuff. not all, but many.

so this woman told you she was paying 900 dollars a month to store her junk? how tacky. she's probably lying so she can justify the crazy prices. i hate when people think their junk is worth SO much and then they wind up selling nothing. i guess it's fine if this is just a hobby and you enjoy sitting in the a high school parking lot or whatever it is all day and dont need the money.

you can have the book on joy, i got about 10 pages in before i wanted to barf. if anyone acted the way that book instructs you on how to act and look at life, id probably want to slap them.

im gonna take my dog to the park today. i love saturdays taking him to the park cuz i find such great stuff on the street. last weekend i found an awesome neon dartboard! turns out i really REALLY suck at darts :(

have a good day everyone!

No *rob*. Two very sweet young people had agreed to try to sell her belongings at the flea. They just mentioned why she was selling it (900 bucks a month storage). I guess all of the stuff was not being sold. Glad you are feeling better.

Well, good weekend everyone and a day of peace and contemplation tomorrow.

me and duke just had a fun time at the park. LOL i got caught up watching (not shitting you) a bunch of moonfaces drinking wine in plastic cups and having a pinata party, i got caught up watching them all hitting the pinata and i didnt realize where duke was, turned around after the thing was hit and done with and duke was mauled over some old man on the bench next to me licking his face. the guy was TERRIFIED and FROZEN. i freaked out cuz i thought duke was just sitting there, didnt realize someone sat on the bench too hahahhha. im so glad my dog is friendly in situations like that, i was really like oh NO when i saw it happening hahahah. gotta bring him to the vet btw on monday he has an infection in the crotch area that isnt going away like it normally does with anti-fungal creams. grrrr. giving him a bath in a bit tho. i wonder if he got this cuz we sit in very nasty sections of prospect park everyday? even in that little thingie in GAP (it smells like pee).? that park is nasty.

sad to say, but i agree with you dave. i feel like the media is using this as a 'sweeps week' so to speak. it's a competition to see which network can make you cry harder, who has the most compelling images and stories of survivors and family members left behind. it feels dirty how the media being opportunistic in the worst way possible.

yes, the whole "i never knew my daddy cause he died before i was born" or the "i was in kindergarten and i was scared" thing is truly disgusting. other than making people feel awful, i'm not sure what the reasoning is for the media to keep doing that. they aren't trying to make sure people 'never forget' and they aren't truly trying to highlight heroes of the day. they are exploiting people and exploiting a tragedy. i refuse to turn on anything even slightly news related.

I think that Obama has capitulated one time too many, trying to please everyone, and not getting a whole lot done in the process, but I'd never say for sure that someone else would have done a better or worse job of things. He was stymied not only by his unsuccessful bid to play center field, but also a congress who wouldn't do much more than say 'no.' But, I must say I prefer things this way. A party having clear and complete control over the presidency and the house and congress disturbs me, no matter which party it is.

I'm with DIBS, I can't bear another word of all this 9/11 stuff. And I've become very isolationist in a military sense.

I feel badly for the families, but just reliving 9/11 over and over and over is too much. It feels vaguely psychotic. I can't participate.

I need to find a broker or peeps that know Prospect Lefferts really well. I think I wanna move there. Today, anyway.

I can see the light from my deck. It's very touching. But the rest of it is, as you say, an orgy. I can't take it. It was bad enough the first time around, I can't relive it over and over and over. Talk to me again in 15-20 years, then maybe I'll be able to digest some of it.

i think she's got some growing/maturing to do. she reminds me of serena in her early days when she had that emotional block against beating her sister. she eventually grew up, got over it, and started kicking everyone's ass, including venus. maybe cw will eventually do the same.
September 10, 2011 11:19 PM - cobblehiller
I think you're right, she's getting emotional/frustrated rather than digging her heels in.

Congrats to Serena...(even if she does look weird w/ overplucked eyebrows...).
Nice interview postgame.

At least you folks get to see your sports. I just missed Michigan (not my fave team but my best in the Big10) beat (hated) Notre Dame in the last minute because F***ING CANADIAN CABLE DOESN'T HAVE ESPN AND F***ING AMERICAN NETWORKS WEREN'T CARRYING THE GAME (ABC went with NASCAR instead. Awesome).

Anyway hope everyone is well...

How about a Plusa Tennis match?

September 11, 2011 10:50 AM - gay smurf hoodlum
tennis is gross. the men and the women are fugly. grossest.sport.ever!!! next to golf i guess. i'd rather wtch croquet. way more fun than lame ass waspy tennis (lol i know they have black chicks in tennis too but they are just there for the kitsch factor and the corporate endorsements). i find most sports gross cuz they pander to race. this one is white this one is black, etc. croquet is the only sport that defies ethnicity. and if you think otherwise i have something to tell you. GO FUCK YOURSELF!

September 11, 2011 11:07 AM - InsertSnappyNameHere
PLUSA tennis? Hmmmm... well, I'm terrible at it so I can't be a player. I'm blind as a bat so I really shouldn't be a line judge. I'm klutzy as all hell, so I can't be a ball person. But wait! I can stand on the sidelines and cheer and fan the players in between sets! DCB, you gonna put on some tennis whites and hit the court for Team PLUSA? I'll be cheering!
September 11, 2011 11:18 AM - DeadCatBounce
No Snaps, I will not put on Tennis Whites!! Tennis Whites are Gross and Elitist.
I will however play tennis and beat all challengers!!
Except for Lechecal, who probably has a gun.
And Biff Champion, who probably cheats.

it just hit me walking to the store just now why so many kids in park slope look borderline retarded/inbred, etc. their parents are SOOOOO old!!! and im not talking adoptive parents here (i think), but these people actually had these kids, in their 40s, extremely OLD EGGS! while i find teenage parents kinda annoying, at least their children dont have that "look" if you know what im saying.

Paging Cobble Hiller: I lived in PLG for 14 years. But I moved to PS in 1995, so my knowledge of the place isn't up to date. My impression, though, when I go back for strolls, is that it hasn't changed all that much.

If I were moving out to that side of the park, PLG would not be my first choice--I would rather be located in the Cortelyou Road area.
September 11, 2011 3:38 PM - cobblehiller
Thanks, wonton, we literally just got back from taking a walk over in PLG just now. I could live there if the space apt. was right. The transportation would work for us. Grocery shopping seemed not so great, like I might do a lot of schlepping. I saw an ad for a beautiful place at a great rent, and got all excited but the broker never called us back!

Our next outing will be Cortelyou/Ditmas Park and Kensington areas. Sixyears is out there, and we wanna try to meet up with him to chat about it.

Cripes! Are the tickets THAT expensive??
September 11, 2011 4:55 PM - InsertSnappyNameHere

September 11, 2011 4:58 PM - cobblehiller

I was incredibly mean saying what I did earlier about an invitation to an older friends apartment. First of all, her cat is a Siamese and cleaner by far than I am. Secondly, she made us the best martinis and had a great buffet. Brooklyn Heights is home to a lot of very sophisticated and amusing folks of all ages.

I spent 1 1/2 hours tonight sitting on the Promenade, looking at the pillars of light. Not to go into my lingering grief, but after a while I experienced a flood of beautiful memories about all the things I did in the the towers where I worked in one form or fashion for most of their existence. It was exactly the perfect thing to do. NO TV at all. I left feeling happy.
