Site Building

Got ideas? Post them here! Seriously- let's figure out what LifeinBkln is about. Do we want other sections- like a DIY forum? Events? Slice of BK Life articles? Neighborhoods? We've got a great opportunity here- let's make the most of it. we are one eccentric, feisty, bright and funny group of people. We are open and welcoming OK- so sometimes we are foul-mouthed, antsy and dorkish- no one's perfect. But we are about loving Brooklyn, and cats ;-)

I like LifeinBkln but also: BrooklynLife, BrooklynDaze; LifeinBklyn; Groanstoner (No-I kid).

I know we can have static sections so I'd love to see things like attractions in Bklyn- museums, great places to go and eat, photo galleries. It's very ambitious and we hope everyone will take on some things to write about. Some of you really know the restaurants, some of you have great recipes- there's so much we could do. And how do we prioritize site building?

Can we put a traffic counter on this blog? They're free--I use StatCounter, some folks use SiteMeter--maybe you know some others that are better?

It would be interesting to be able to see what kind of traffic we're getting.

I kinda like the idea of 'everyman' type articles. Things that aren't high-falutin and out of our price ranges - where to get a good meal for $25 or less, interesting sights seen on Brooklyn streets (can we upload photos to go with our posts if we create a thread?), etc. Maybe once a month we can each author a thread on something we are well versed in - law, finance, architecture, graphic design, anything - kinda like a 'did you know that...." and provide some useful/fun info. Ok...I'm done rambling now :-)

Should we ask for volunteers to take on certain static page content? At least get that off your plate, ASAP? Brooklyn attractions is a good one. Great and easy to put together by Neighborhood, I suppose. I'm not a writer but I'm happy to organize or aggregate stuff.

I have not played around with them yet, but I see they are there.

Would we be interested in how many hits each page gets?
I think that is as easy as clicking a box to turn that on.

I love the idea of everyman type articles. I was thinking along those lines too, snap.

And it would be great for people to volunteer for static page content. And that would make it easier on all of us.

I'll volunteer to do legal articles...stuff like where to get help with what, interesting cases going on in Brooklyn, etc.

I'd like to do a monthly column on possible iimprovements to Brooklyn, meaning great potential projects that would improve our borough. I was thinking of one potential column while I was bike-riding along Eastern Parkway yesterday. I'm trying to step in the role of my avatar.

lol benson. Plenty of worthwhile projects. Plenty of nimbys blocking them all.

I was thinking we could use some really world class modernist glass apartment buildings somewhere in Downtown Brooklyn. Maybe near the new arena? No wait, someone already thought of that.

I'm making lists so yes to everyone who volunteers. Benson- that would be a great column. I'd also like to read about the changes Robert Moses made in Brooklyn. It still impacts us and I think it would be very helpful for people to understand the why and how of his decisions. Snappy- wonderful idea! Thanks!!

So would it be better to give you guys your own page if you do regular columns? Because some information, such as snappy's legal hlep would be great to keep easily accessible. Have to check with Cgar and BHS.

Are we going to stay with this format? Or do a more Forum like Format with sections? If it's this style, then yes, static pages on a right side bar? That we could highlight individual pieces of on the home page when something new is posted? So they're always there to be checked on the right, but knowing that all of them won't likely be updated every day? Am I explaining this well?
